The first series of this prequel to "Hamlet", set in an alternative 1930s, was on Radio 4 last week. Can't say I understood more than half of what was going on, but I suspect this'll run just as long as 'Pilgrim' did.

I’ll probably hit up the BBC iplayer tonight or tomorrow.

I listened to the first episode. Typically well written. I really loved Pilgrim. I wish Sebastian Bockiewicz would write for Big Finish.

I listened to the first episode. Typically well written. I really loved Pilgrim. I wish Sebastian Bockiewicz would write for Big Finish. I've listened to all 7 series of Pilgrim, but never really grew to love it. Sometimes the story/dialogue seemed too stretched out, like Sebastian Baczkiewicz hadn't written enough words for a full episode. Also for me there never appeared to be an overall destination, an objective, for Pilgrim, to really engage with it. Think it would have helped if William Palmer had some regular companions with him during his travels to give greater depth to each story. For those that don't catch 'Elsinore' on the BBC radio iplayer, it is available via Kobo audiobooks UK on 01.Mar.18 --> www.kobo.com/gb/en/audiobook/elsinore-4 Not currently listed on Audible UK.

My copy of Elsinore is on its way. Along with the newest Bill Nighy fronted Charles Paris mystery and the first Benedict Cumberbatch lead Rumpole of the Bailey.

the first Benedict Cumberbatch lead Rumpole of the Bailey. The very last series of the West/Cumberbatch/Rhind-Tutt 'Rumpole' concludes tomorrow, after fifteen years. It's been an interesting run, with something of a revisionist take on the character (particularly playing-up the general unhappiness that people don't always spot in the stories) - particularly in regard of his relationship with Philida Trant.

a prequel to Hamlet? What a stupid idea. Actually no. It is a rather inspired idea very well executed by a really talented writer.

a prequel to Hamlet? What a stupid idea. But what else could they do? I somehow don't think Shakespeare was planning a sequel...

It's much better than the sequel to 'Macbeth' that features in the fourth Doctor novel 'Managra', in which the witches bring Macbeth's severed head back to life and it flies off to England by flapping its ears...
