NTA voters and their complete lack of respect

No its not an insult its a statement by the general viewing public.

Somehow the Moffatt Era failed to engage with them, and that's either down to the style of storytelling or the leads didn't have the right mix of maturity and likeability that Tennant has in their eyes (He's still nominated for Broadchurch) The bigger snub for me is Pearl Mackie, one of the best supporting artist roles seen on the show in many years.

The same Moffat era that saw the show become a bigger international success? It deserves some recognition for that above the likes of Call The Midwife and Doctor Foster, which would never manage to do it.

Pearl Mackie being voted into the shortlist above Peter Capaldi in Peter Capaldi's final year as the Doctor would have been ridiculous IMO.

That makes sense.
You'd have to blame the Doctor Who fans for not voting then. There are 5 million of them, and they are obsessed. 

I'm sure there are more hardcore fans of DW going about, than the numbers who voted for the other nominees!
And, I'm constantly told that ratings for every tv show are dropping too.

Then you need to consider that you are the person out of step here, the world does not conform itself to you, and if you go through life expecting it to, you will have very painful and unfulfilled experience, and your obsession with Who and all things Who is not shared by the majority of the population, nor do they see the need to support your views and what you think important, indeed in general, the  majority of the population doesn't give two hoots what you think.

Please stop demanding the world conform to your views and only your views.

Both Peter and Pearl made the longlist though... I voted for them.

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about here, not that many people voted for them in a year filled with great stuff like Broadchurch and Line of Duty which both have double the live viewing figures of Who. And yes- live figures do matter. If people really thought the show to be unmissable then they would watch it live like all the other top tier dramas out there.

But then again, is it really that bad to miss out on the NTA shortlist? Is it really a betrayal? It's not great for the show right now that its fans aren't turning out for it but nobody ever remembers these things about a week later anyway.

You've got to understand that awards are a privilege- an added extra- not a God-given right.

I would assume that those who can even be bothered to vote in such things, which right there is already a skewered demographic even in itself, are only allowed to vote for a single person/creative team/program in each category. I've been a Who fan since the 70's, it's the show I love most. But it is not, objectively, the best show on television. At its very best it can be, but on the whole, it just isn't. Likewise, I love Peter Capaldi, he's my favourite new series Doctor, and I'll miss him greatly. But he did not give the best performance of any male lead actor on television this past year. That doesn't mean his performance wasn't great, and a joy to watch, but absolute best of the year across all of television? To me, no. As such, as much as I love the show, and found the last series to be Capaldi's Doctors strongest and most enjoyable overall, if I were voting my single vote wouldn't have gone towards Peter Capaldi as best male lead actor or Doctor Who as best TV show either.

Not being nominated isn't an insult, it isn't some kind of slight or judgement against the actors or the show, it isn't lack of respect, nor is it any kind of anti-Who conspiracy. At most it's reflective of what the majority of voters genuinely remember by the time voting rolls around, at least it's a popularity competition at least partially flamed by the shows that get the biggest media push and most exposure during the time of the voting process, mixed with the selection of shows that get reliably nominated every year and become habit. It is what it is. As such, assigning ulterior motives or false significance to it seems rather pointless.
