Yeah, rather unusual... I'll start looking at setting up some kind of lifeboat page on Divergent Wordsmiths. A gathering point that can be set live just in case the forum goes down. Hopefully, it's nothing. Buuut if it isn't, I'd still be contactable through the Wordsmiths submissions address -- "divergent.wordsmiths@gmail.com" -- if that helps at all. I do think that will be helpful. Not sure what can done regarding backing up the forum, though. We do also have the Facebook page where some of us on FB congregated after the official BF forum was taken down.

When the BF forum went down someone started a group called The Zero Room for BF forum refugees. It’s not really active anymore, though it still exists.

Yeah... *scratches neck* I've been searching around for alternatives and, unfortunately, I don't think there's anything that can really be done there. The only advice I can really give people is to make backups and not rely on the forums for primary data storage. Keep a copy on the computer as well as on the net. Nice! The Zero Room could be ideal. It's one more place people can go if things suddenly go phut.

So who is going to pay for everything.......I don’t want it but don’t want to pay more. nothing is free. Our data has always been used, be it buy your supermarket loyalty cards, morgages, credit cards, surveys, etc. i will take the ads....but if ya happy paying send a few quid over to pro boards and remove em.

If you say so bossman lol If we did a poll I wonder how many people who use this forum also have an ad blocker as standard on their internet search engine of choice.

I use an adblocker on one of the three browsers I regularly use on my laptop. The ad-blocker was so I could watch certain streaming content without ads, as one streaming site would regularly interrupt the content with an ad, and then, frustratingly, send me back to the start of the video. So I could never finish watching what I started due to ads.
I happen to view this forum on the browser with the ad-blocker, but on my phone I don't use an ad-blocker and don't see ads currently (in recent months, I was only seeing ads for Proboards itself).
However, I just white-listed this site on my laptop browser, and now I see normal ads instead of the suggestion that I pay Proboards 3 bucks a month to block ads. If the ads don't get super annoying, I don't mind white-listing, but if I start getting annoying pop-ups and stuff like that, I'm blocking again.

Ah, well. Looks like everything's alright and the site now has a Plan B. I'd call that a win.

I never even thought of using an ad-blocker before certain adverts on this forum were mucking up my typing in text. It was like half of my keyboard entries would be ignored. I got rather annoyed and that was when I installed ABP.
Now I don't have a problem with unobtrusive monetizing adverts... but when such ads make it very difficult to post, screw that!

I'm not having a problem like you were having with the ads. I occasionally click on an ad when I didn't intend to, but other than that, not an issue.
