Interesting I wonder if they'll keep it classic or update it. (looks like their keeping it classic bold move given current attitudes in TV)

“it’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60s, and our approach is The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who”

I really hope this doesn't affect Big Finish's licencise come renewal. I can't speak to that but we do know the license was only for the lost episodes and adaptations of stories from other media. I would think the production of a new series would put the kibosh on BF getting a crack at original audio productions. Or I could be wrong. Still, Shane Black.

(And I'm a non-smoker BTW!) Seriously, that's very exciting news, looking forward to it already.

I wonder if this will actually happen as the Avengers has a long history of proposed revivals that never materialised. Still would be great if it did, although I would have preferred a revival with Steed, Dr Keel and Carol (but would probably be in a minority of one)!

No they won't. What a ridiculous thing to say. Anyway, I think this could be good it all depends on the cast I guess.

I was being deliberately naughty about online hypersensitivity and reaction... (the clue was that the next line began with 'Seriously, ') And yes the casting will be critical and the scripts and the production, to capture not any real sense of the 60s but what we think of as the 60s thanks to shows like 'The Avengers' - that rather heightened, mannered style where everyone looks impossibly stylish, radiates wit and intelligence in every line of dialogue and remains unruffled to the last furl of one's rolled umbrella, no matter what the villain of the week throws at one.

I am cautiously optimistic about this and probably explains why Big Finish couldn’t do new stories. Hopefully they’re are still more books that can be adapted in the future.
So if this TV series does happen what do you think they will call it?
Surely the TV executives would consider simply calling it The Avengers too confusing for the US market!?
Will it be the same as the comic range which is called Steed and Mrs Peel?

There's also recently been a proposal by Universal stage productions to adapt The Avengers as a musical! According to the Daily Mail (so who knows if it's true) it will be written by Sean Foley and the music composed by David Arnold.
