Bloody hell, that was dark and very, very Torchwood.
God, I love Rhys and Gwen and their dynamic. Well, I was mostly right about Arwen - BUT IT WAS EVEN WORSE. Big Finish's Torchwood, you will never be ready.
Kai Owen, you are never allowed to be creepy again. You are ABSOUSETLY frightening.

That was excellent ... much more like the Torchwood I remember.
Just a warning ... for some the language may be a bit excessive!
Cheers

Yep. I was thinking what all of you were. Now THAT was Torchwood. I loved the dynamic between Gwen and Rhys even more in this than in the show. And a very cool way to bring the Torchwood team together without actually paying for the whole Torchwood team being together.

Fantastic story. Some insight into Rhys's background (driving around north Wales and getting hot buns) does wonders for the character, and inspired use of Anwen, in a heartbreaking twist. Her wanting to play on Rhys's phone was a great bit, if only because it represents today's youth. The reveal that this is all Jack's fault makes perfect sense, a flawed man not reading the fine print and paying for it. The idea of Gwen and Rhys rebuilding Torchwood while raising Anwen is fully of possibilities, as is the idea that they are doing it to protect her.
Oh, and I love the line spoken before the title sequence. Bloody Torchwood.

Somehow I hated to see Anwen mixed up in things but I guess that's Torchwood - I could put on my wish list for the series for Gwen to have twins next so she can get in gun battles with one under each arm. :-)
I think I also hate to see things being Jack's fault but that's probably Torchwood too?
Other than that, I thought Forgotten Lives was a great drama - suspenseful, funny, heart-wrenching, well-written and really well-performed. Eve and Kai were just fantastic and I think the chemistry between their characters might be better than ever. I'm very intrigued what the future of Torchwood is going to be from here.
That's three winners out of three for this series as far as I'm concerned. Also I got really excited over the trailer for the next installment which is something I don't do that often, it usually means something is going to be particularly good.

That's three winners out of three for this series as far as I'm concerned. Also I got really excited over the trailer for the next installment which is something I don't do that often, it usually means something is going to be particularly good. Whenever Gwen had tried to separate her personal and her Torchwood life, it usually results in the two of them colliding. She had to Retcon Rhys he got suspicious, and he eventually stumbled upon Torchwood himself when his haulage business got involved. Gwen was impregnated by an alien the night before her wedding, and all the guests wound up receiving Retcon. Being chased by a shapeshifter that looks like your soon-to-be mother in law must also be something you'd not want to happen to you. Leaving Torchwood behind to raise Anwen in rural Wales she still found trouble (novel First Born). Then the Miracle, and now this audio. When Gwen started investigating Torchwood, she would never be getting out of it. In terms of character, Forgotten Lives excels. The interactions between Gwen and Rhys are the highlight. It was quite amusing in the interview at the end when Eve introduced herself as Rhys Williams and Kai introduced himself as Gwen Cooper!

While I enjoyed the first two Torchwood releases, this is where they got it right. This story made me feel genuinely uncomfortable in the way that the better episodes of Torchwood did. The first two releases were good fun, but that's never what Torchwood was.
Also in benefited from having two of the cast members from the tv show interacting with each other again, unlike the rest of the stories in this season. Eve Myles and Kai Owen are great acting together.

Yeah, for me this was the best of the BF Torchwood releases so far. Gwen & Rhys are a great pairing, and the story was well paced and entertaining. This really felt like a Torchwood story... now all we need is the Torchwood team back together for a full-cast adventure...

So I finally listened to this and thought it was brilliant
Just a bit confused... is this supposed to sum up the committee. Of Arubus.. . That was built up in 1 and 2.
If so.... kind of a downer way to end that storyline.
Sad that Owen wasnt mentioned with Ianto and Tosh.
So..... wonder what time frame the next episode is in?
Hope I can get to it soon.

I think the most amazing thing about Forgotten Lives is Philip Bond (Griffiths/Jack) appearing in the Whoniverse again, 52 years after his last appearance - Ganatus in The Daleks. That's quite a gap!

Well that was... that was something. Pretty great. Dark, heavy, cracking a smile despite the horrible horrible things going on.
God I miss Gwen. From the trailer at the end of the previous disc, where Rhys tries to give the promo but stumbles over Gwen's delivery, I was hooked. You can really see why she's the main character of the series. She sounds so... real. She's got such a range. And when they drag her kid into it... oof. Wouldn't want to be those guys if she ever runs into them again.
Good stuff.
I even enjoyed Philip Bond as Jack, though I know some others had issue with the accent.
My only complaint was that revealing that The Committee was behind The Three Families feels a bit forced, but I guess it helps solidify The Committee as the retroactive big bad of the entire series, skulking around in early seasons and then retroactively being behind the entirety of Miracle Day.
This is probably the most Torchwoody release of the series yet, and I love it.
