In the US, it seems the courts are saying that the practice followed by BF, of the physical media and the download media being 2 separate things and the owner is allowed to keep one and sell the other at their own discretion regardless of what the copyright owner says or wishes. Obviously this ruling is up for appeal, and only strickly relevant to the US, BUT it will have a strong influence on how things work world wide. www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43154671

The situation described in that article is not really analogous to what Big Finish does, and I'm not sure it has the broader application (or implication) that I think you are inferring from that article.
What Redbox does is rentals. So it's not really different from the days when you could go to the video store and rent a movie or game on DVD for the evening.

I'm not talking about the business models, indeed what makes the ruling interesting is that it's about weather the copyright holder can force you to sell your property only as a whole package as sold by them, or wether you can sell parts of the package whilst retaining other parts. I mention BF, because allowing CD purchases to sell their CD's and keep their digital copy is something BF has always allowed, whereas most other copyright owners have sought to prevent this. In this case Disney sued Redbox to prevent Redbox from selling the download codes that came with the DVD's they purchased, Redbox's business model is irrelevant, what's relevant is that a court has said that when you purchase something, your perfectly at liberty to sell only part of it regardless of what the copyright holder says.
