I re-listened to Vol. 1 the other night. While so much of it is just bafflingly the exact same as the TV stories, I really think Your Beautiful Village is an absolutely fantastic story and one of the best things Nick has done.
It's so good it makes me really sad we're going to end up with mostly remakes when the potential was - and is - there for all new stories to expand the story.
Ramon Tikaram is one of the best Number 2's on screen or audio - he really had me believe he could be on Six's side despite that being impossible.

I do wish Nick had gone off on his own more often as well.

Interestingly I've just looked up my old What Numbers are your Limited Edition Boxsets and the highest Prisoner Number was 1489 brought last year, presumably then they weren't/aren't dispatched in numerical order.

Personally I don’t think we’d be seeing Vol. 1 go OOP so soon if it were released in the slipcover format like Vol 2 was. It was probably quite expensive to press copies of anything in that weird book format. I wish they had released Vol 2 in the book style format or vol 1 in the CD style case, makes a horrible mess of the collection as it is now.

"so much of it is just bafflingly the exact same as the TV stories, I really think Your Beautiful Village is an absolutely fantastic story and one of the best things Nick has done. It's so good it makes me really sad we're going to end up with mostly remakes when the potential was - and is - there for all new stories to expand the story." This is the reason I am unlikely to invest in the Audio series, despite a long standing appreciation of the series and collection of releases (Books, Music, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray). I was and still am all open to new stories with Mark Elstob, but listening to the remake of Arrival, I just grew impatient as any new dialogue was just exposition and filler, which contradicts the allegorical appeal of McGoohans' vision. We do not need it confirmed whether it is John Drake, or indeed whether it is based in our reality. It is a placement for themes to be explored philosophically concerning individual liberty and freedom of thought and to place it within a specified espionage setting, renders the setting to the commonplace. Patrick McGoohan stated that he felt that the core 6 episodes (those made in the first filming block) are those true to his vision, and that all those that followed, diluted or diverged in some respect, which is why he lost interest in the project, as it did not have the 'legs' to expand to a full ITC length series. Fall Out remains probably the best series finale in my eyes though. 25 years on, it still impresses me from first viewing.

Can't wait for set 3, I could, and have in fact listened to the two episodes featuring Celia Imrie and Lucy Briggs Owen as No.2 countless times. Lucy Briggs Owen especially is awesome, she literally has me in stitches, " c'mon dig in"

Making No 6 John Drake would be a different route! There was never any confirmation in The Prisoner that No 6 was Drake. In fact I recall reading that Patrick McGoohan ruled it out as it would have meant royalties would have to be paid to the creator of Danger Man! There's no reason any such link couldn't be accessible to new fans if it was done well.

I've met fans adamant that No6 is Drake and others who are equally adamant that the isn't! I've no firm views either way but would quite like series of audio Danger Man adventures.
