I recently listened to the Seventh Doctor Story ‘The Harvest’ that introduced Hex. I liked the story and I was intrigued by the character. I’ve not listened to any other stories featuring that Tardis team of Seven, Ace and Hex, but I’d like to. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to go next?
Thank you.

Live 34 and The Settling, definitely. And I think a lot of the stories in the Black and White TARDIS arc can be listened to without much context and still understand everything that's going on - I listened to Protect and Survive, Project: Destiny, and A Death in the Family without the context of the arc they're a part of and still found them absolutely fantastic. But, I think there's something to be said for listening to them all in order and getting that full series experience - which, admittedly, I myself still haven't done...

I'd say Forty-Five is important to introducing the villain of A Death in the Family and shouldn't be skipped (even if it technically can be). But yeah, if you're picking and choosing, I agree that the best two in the early run are Live 34 and The Settling. Both great stories and The Settling uses Hex very well. Angel of Scutari uses him well also, but that's a little later on.

The trilogy of Magic Mousetrap, Enemy of the Daleks and Angel of Scutari I feel have a good character exploration of Hex, specifically how he as a character relates to and contrasts with the characters of the Seventh Doctor and Ace as well as the lifestyle they lead.

We've just started an Evelyn Smythe listen through, which will take a few months, but once that's done I'm thinking a Hex themed listen through, in part to cap off Evelyn (saving A Death in the Family for Hex because it's basically a coda for Evelyn, and wraps up character arcs for the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hex).

That’s great, thank you for the suggestions and explanations, I’d been nervous of listening to any of the Hex stories, with the long story archs, but I did enjoy the performance in “The Harvest”. The next stories on the list are “Live 34” and “The Settling”

I will also add - er - {if you want to go into it blind, don't click this. But it's mostly about tone...} Anyway. Live 34 is the audio that frightened me the most - or perhaps the only one to actually frighten me at all? Yeah, that's probably true. Something like Chimes of Midnight might wow me or make me go "ooh spooky!" but for real, grown-up fear? That's Live 34. There's just something so off-putting about how real it feels. We live with the visceral horror of the news every day so to see it woven so expertly into a sci-fi story is chilling. That said, artist, be sure to let us know what you think when you get around to those stories; it might give some of us here an excuse to re-listen!

Hex was a great companion, I'd definitely give his whole run a try.
That said, I'll echo what a lot of others in this thread have already said: LIVE 34 is a fantastic release.

I listened to ‘The Settling’ this week, and I liked it a great deal, I always enjoy a pure historical (I wish there were more actually, I’m not sure why there aren’t more, now I come to think about it). I liked the structure with Ace and Hex discussing events in Tardis. I also enjoyed the general musings about religion and morality. There were good performances throughout as well. So far Hex seems a very full, and endearing character.

Definitely avoid the Dark Husband. The writer did no detectable research on the Seventh Doctor, Ace or Hex and it shows, badly.

After the Evelyn listen through there's going to be a Hex listen through. I know what you're thinking, Hexcellent.

I can't get myself to listen to that one. Avoid it like the plague (Plague of the Daleks is miles better than this though). Use the two hours for something you won't regret, or will at least enjoy.

I just finished a complete Hex marathon and to be honest this is the way I'd recommend to listen to them. However, a few standouts that can really be listened to without any context are:
The Harvest (a solid enough intro to the character)
LIVE 34 (absolutely one of the best things Big Finish have done - makes me really miss the "experimental" stories in the Main Range of years gone by)
The Settling (good, but a little overrated in my opinion, others seem to like it, so you might too)
No Man's Land (very underrated in my opinion, and has some great ideas and performances)
Forty-Five: The Word Lord (you may as well listen to the whole anthology, but really only The Word Lord and Casualties of War are good)
The Magic Mousetrap
The Angel of Scutari
Project: Destiny/A Death in the Family (listen to these two together, preferably after The Angel of Scutari which ends on a cliffhanger, but it's pretty simply explained at the start of Project: Destiny. It'll definitely enhance the experience if you've heard Project: Twilight and Project: Lazarus, but not required. Also The Word Lord will enhance your experience of A Death in the Family, but again, not required.)
Robophobia/House of Blue Fire/Protect and Survive/Black and White/Gods and Monsters/Afterlife (the first two are optional, but just good stories in my opinion and related to the others - I included them in my Hex marathon because House of Blue Fire is basically a prequel to the next Hex trilogy, but the other four you should probably listen to in order and after you've heard A Death in the Family in particular to get the most out of them. Definitely all accessible without any prior knowledge, but you'll be missing out on some of Big Finish's finest arc-storytelling)
There are actually very few dud Hex stories, so I'd recommend working through the whole lot in order if you have the time and resources. Happy listening!

Live 34, Night Thoughts, The Settling, Forty-Five, The Magic Mousetrap, Enemy of the Daleks, The Angel of Scutari, Project Destiny (though only for continuity's sake), A Death in the Family, Protect and Survive, Gods and Monsters (though later stories ruin it), and Afterlife.
