Was not expecting the speech at the end to go on so long- it was great to let it breathe. It's the kind of thing we don't get often enough. Capaldi was just breathtaking here. There was that moment when he called himself "the daddy" and after Tennant and Smith, I have to agree Jenna was also excellent. She's been underused this series - showing signs perhaps the writing was already fairly far gone by the time she decided to stay for Series 9 after all? Either way, she played Clara and Bonnie excellently. I'm afraid, though, as beloeved as some fans find her, I can't warm to Osgood. At all. Ingrid's not on a par with Capaldi, Coleman or Redgrave so she stands out a bit too much for me. Wee bit sad Jac died fr sure last week as I always liked the actress from one of the shows that had the Who replacement slot in the 90s - BUGS but with two Osgoods back, I guess Kate doesn't need Jac. Kate not being a Zygon was something I guessed but I honestly didn't see this one being resolved with each side backing down. It seemed like wish-fulfillment from Harness but hey, there's no issue with that when drawing real-world parallels. Why not say "There's a better way" more often? I think it's fasciating that the most throwaway part of the 50th, the Zygon plot, is the ne we go back to in such depth. I'm now thinking Clara somehow is already dead either literally or metaphorically. When 12 said it's been a month since she "died" and Clara said it's been 5 minutes...there was a rather loud "FORESHADOWING" klaxxon going off for me There's a darkness to the closing scenes this series when its just Clara and the Doc. One slightly sour note for me - minor but an ongoing trend - was the "Five Rounds Rapid" reprise. It's like there's now a rule that every story must reference the distant past of the show. Ditto the "imbecile" gas line. The characters who originally said those lines- The Brig and the 4th Doctor - were just talking at the time they said these lines, they weren't memorable "in-universe" but because they've been popular in fandom they get trotted out for a quick wink to the audience.

This was really good. There hasn't been a single bad episode all season.

A great follow up to Invasion, and an Inversion in many ways. It went from a globe spanning terrorist hunt to a localised negotiation, more about ideas and talking than action. Good use of Clara, managing to stay on top of things even while trapped in the pod. For me the MVP is Osgood. Fantastic twist with the two Osgood boxes, and the video being in black and white to disguise this from both Bonnie and the viewers.

Peter Capaldi's speech as the Doctor at the episodes conclusion gave me goosebumps, i believed every word he said & showed just what a amzing actor he is & echoes what many billions of people are thinking in these uncertain times, it will be interesting to see were BF take the War Doctor & the lengths he goes too in ending conflicts because it sounds very dark.
Great performances by Jenna Coleman & Jemma Redgrave who again was a little underused until the end, loved Ingrid Oliver as Osgood who's character i wasn't sold on until her performance here, looking forward to UNIT:Extinction now.

The speech was probably one of the best performances by a Doctor Actor ever, but it win TV Awards, will it heck.

I watched it late last night after coming from home from a closing night cast party. I may have had a frosty adult beverage or two in me so I was sitting there watching it and enjoying it. Then Capaldi started THE speech and all the fog in my brain went away and I locked in on the episode. And no doube Capaldi was stunning but that scene doesn't work unless Coleman is dialed in and matching him and she did. Jenna Coleman has been underused this series but not here. This may well have been one of The Doctor's finest hours but it was Jenna Coleman's best turn as companion. All in all, a very, very strong episode and wrap up to last week's start. And yes, series 9 has been so very strong. Moving from strength to srength. And off we go to next week. Is that the Mark Gatiss penned episode?

I am definitely enjoying this season more than last season but the preview for next week didn't get me very excited we will see.
Osgood is such a great character & I also love Kate. I guess I should get the new Unit boxset.

That speech made excited. I was like, "Ya! This is why I like the Doctor!" After that speech, he's really cemented himself into the character that I learned to love from the earlier seasons. It also seems like the Doctor "knows" that Clara is going to die somehow. Oh! And it's good to finally know the Doctor's name is Basil

It also seems like the Doctor "knows" that Clara is going to die somehow. I've been thinking the same thing for a few weeks now. Being the Doctor, he must know when she is going to die and it's like he is rushing trying to have as many adventures as possible with her before that day arrives. I've got the think the confession disc, this hybrid business & Missy play a big part in her demise as well. Or we could both be totally wrong.

I don't think that the Doctor knows how Clara is going to die. His experiences with Me may have gotten him thinking more about the fact that he knows that Clara will die one day, and the writing may be foreshadowing her departure, but I don't think the Doctor actually knows Clara's fate.

I loved it. I love it when a story goes from being huge and epic in the first part to being intimate and personal in the second: we've been getting a lot of that since Moffatt took over and it is not something I'm getting tired of.
I've seen a few reviews online slagging off the story for being pro-government and anti-revolution, but I didn't take that vibe away from it at all: it struck me that it was very much in favour of individualism but also being aware that you are a part of something bigger when you join a culture but that people can't make big decisions for you... a similar message that I got from Mr Harness's Kill The Moon last year. "Sorry, Clara - you have to make the decision on your own. I can't make it for you. You can get a consensus view, if you like, but ultimately you have to make it yourself."
Only downer was that I think forgiveness for Bonnie - a killer - was fine but there should have been some... well... consequences that she faced for what she did. Forgiveness is great and something I believe in for a redemptive justice system, but she pretty much got away with it, didn't she?

This was a fantastic episode. Fantastically written. I actually like the Five Rounds Rapid reprise. 12's speech with the two boxes and the back and forth with the American Gameshow and his pain at the War, was one of the best Doctor speeches ever.

I have some trouble swallowing the resolution here. What about all the "radicalized Zygons" who want to kill humans? Bonnie may have changed her mind after listening to the speech, but what about them?
They may not be able to unmask all Zygons at once, but there's still plenty of terrorizing and radicalizing for them to do...
