This morning I have written to Big Finish asking if they could consider including with Time War 2 and Ravenous 2 a new slipcase for the first box set for each series.
I really like the cover of the latest Time War boxset, but for me as a physical collector it is very important for me to have a consistent look to a set.
In the past it always really annoyed me when a new novel came out in a series and the publisher decided to change the cover design so that you would have to re-buy all the previous books if you wanted them to look the same on your bookshelf.
Now it could just be me, but if you are reading this and you too would like a consistent look to Time War and Ravenous please email Big Finish, because the more emails they get on the subject the more likely they will be to offer this extra.
As I said in my email to them I understand that the timing of this redesign probably was not in Big Finishes control, but for the Eighth Doctor it has come at an inopportune time!

I understand it all sounds petty to a good many on the fence but lets consider if Disney decided that the current Star Wars trilogy should dispense of the 1977 logo. Many lamented the loss of the 20th Century Fox fanfare into. Having seen the originals in the Cinema, i also recall the collective cheer in the cinema when the 20th C Fox into appeared in the Phantom of the Menace (the high point of the film for many as it turned out). To decide that the old logo needed replacing would trigger a seismic eruption (online only, maybe).
Many of us are collectors as well as listeners and take some pride in viewing a 'flush set' so to speak.
I assume its the same for collectors of the Action figures range which reverted to the smaller size a few years back. There are enough variations of the Tardis to fit a Russian doll, but that doesn't count.
I suppose it's all down to lack of notice in the timing. A collapsed case for Vol 1 seems feasible regards packaging - i often collapse down cases for storage/protection in the case of DVD sets.
How many would be willing to pay and how much - say £3?

I would certainly pay £3 for a revised cover, I did think about suggesting that, but then I thought that offering it with pre-orders would be a good marketing strategy for BF. Even if customers have bought the 1st set from somewhere else the only way they could get a “flush set” (I am loving that term!) is to buy direct from Big Finish.

The CDs don't really affect me much as I only occasionally purchase them over downloads, but I wonder how much effort would be involved with making a new version of the cover for the first box sets and the stories in each of the series you mention available as a digital copy. They could even have a flattened out box (with front, back and sides) for listeners to print off themselves.
That being said, I honestly can't see it being viable for Big Finish to make the revised covers themselves. It's a product that they've already released so there's no money to be made from redoing the cover for people who have already purchased it. It'd be a nice gesture for the few fans to whom it really matters but not sure if it would be practical. You might be best off hoping a fan does it and puts it up online, or if you have any photoshop skills (I know I don't), mocking it up yourself.
