A strong series thus far. The opening two-parter did have some Moffat excesses. Under the Lake was a good base under siege, even if Before the Flood wasn't quite as good. Girl Who Lived was decent, but The Woman Who Died was stronger, in how it explored the effects of immortality on a mortal mind. The Zygon Invasion/Inversion was strong all round.
One good thing about this year is that it's far less Clara Who. I strongly suspect Clara is headed for something traumatic though, with the hints we've been given.

A very good series so far, depending on how the finale plays out (I've read some very exciting rumours about it...) this could rival Series 4 as my favorite of New Who, certainly not a flawless run of of episodes (I wasn't overly fond of the Zygon 2 parter, I think only the opening story really merited 2 parts and despite Moffat's claims it would be their 'golden years', there hasn't been that much interaction between Clara and the Doc as a team) but a run of episodes I've thoroughly enjoyed all the way through.
Lots of interesting thematic material this series, Capaldi's really settled into the role (even if his Doctor is written somewhat thinner than some of his predecessors...they've also mellowed 12 a bit too quickly for my liking, I found the snarky, abrasive Doctor of Series 8 a breath of fresh air) and I agree about Clara, she feels like a companion again, rather than the center of attention.
Hoping Capaldi stays as long as possible...

I am absolutely loving it, it has gone from strength to strength, for me.

Much stronger than season 8 for me.

This season has been very good so far. I didn't love Under the Lake/Before the Flood, but there haven't been any bad episodes, and there have been many exceptional episodes. The Davros and Zygon stories were especially good.

I'm about as non-plussed about it as I have been these last few years, forgetting it's even on most Saturdays.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It's become event television for me, for the first time since it came back. I've always loved it but lately I've been a little, unfazed if I missed an occasional episode. I have made sure I've caught each one so far this season.

Not a single weak episode. My favorite season since Series 4.

Not a single weak episode. My favorite season since Series 4. Same for me, each episode so far has had more pros than cons. Even if there are negative points with Sleep No More, at least that tried to be inventive and different.

Really good, certainly better than last series, even last night's episode, while not great, wasn't bad.

Despite Sleep No More, this season has been very good. From what we know of the upcoming episodes, I suspect that Sleep No More will be the only bad episode.

I have the feeling that Sleep No More will have a further pay off down the line. If you're talking about the ending, I suspect that was just for the same reason as the ending in Dead Air. Its supposed to make the audience feel involved and freaked out because now the monster got to us. I doubt it will really matter in-universe.

It could pick up with that message getting out or it could be something only tangentally related. Time will tell.

Honestly, I wish they would stop bringing Gattis in as a writer. His TV Who stories have all ranged from okay to awful. The only really good story he wrote was An Adventure in Space and Time, and that wasn't really Doctor Who.

I've not had a problem with his stories - not even Victory Of The Daleks - but even if I did...he's a big player in the UK as an actor, writer and showrunner. Sherlock alone makes him a golden boy at the Beeb. He's also very, very tight with Moffat. That's not going to change any time soon.
Interesting to note that when RTD got the go-ahead to bring Who back in 2003, Gattis was one of the writers who had also pitched a revival series so he could well have been showrunner back in 2005. Love him or hate him, I'd kill to have a DWM feature on what his pitch involved and what his Nu-Who would have been like, who he would have approached etc. Safe to say Eccleston wouldn't have been an easy get since he took the role after working with RTD on The Second Coming.

I'm not denying that Gatiss is talented. I loved An Adventure in Space and Time, and all of his Sherlock episodes have been pretty good. However, when it comes to Doctor Who, Gatiss has written some of the worst episodes of the show, and he hasn't written anything particularly memorable. I suppose Who's science fantasy just isn't Gatiss' strongest genre. Maybe they can give him a recurring role as an actor.

My only niggle with Sleep No More is the Morpheus machines themselves. Anyone read any Dredd in the last, I dunno, 30 years? Sleep Machines and them going wrong in some way is not an original idea. I KNOW old ideas can be turned around but I didn't think this was turned around enough. That said it wasn't bad at all. CONFLICTED.

With this much hate from fans he's clearly a natural choice for show runner.
