For those interested, the audiobook of this is already out and £5.99 on iTunes. I’ve bought and downloaded it and cancelled my book order. Any good? I am at least curious about this. I’m only a couple of chapters in, but it’s ticking all the right boxes for me so far. Beautifully read by Tom, great story structure and it’s told in the first person as the Doctor. It helps that the Doctor, Sarah & Harry are my favourite TARDIS crew, so an extra story from them is very welcome!

Which tells me it’s been extremely compressed.

I’m normally a stickler for sound, but it seems fine to me. The background music is used fleetingly so far and Tom’s reading sounds crisp.

Sadly this is not yet on the German iTunes. Not that I am surprised. Well, will have to wait then...

Doesn't seem to be on iTunes anymore... Maybe it was released early by accident. Would not surprise me, iTunes can be a shambles.

Oh, that was utterly brilliant. It’s terribly funny and absolutely bonkers. You can really picture this being a naff 70’s film, yet being iconic at the same time. It probably works better in prose, as the story is essentially big set pieces and sequences, but there’s the time to weave it together and add little intricacies in book form. And a few surprises to boot!
There’s plenty of great material for Sarah and Harry, each getting their own chapters and time to focus. It’s clear how much affection Tom has for Lis and Ian, and it’s wonderfully reflected in the writing of the Doctor’s thoughts.
Speaking of Tom, his reading is wonderful. It’s absolutely mad one moment and then beautifully spoken the next. The final track is especially touching. For almost 45 years fans have been saying “Tom Baker IS The Doctor” and Scratchman, specifically Tom’s writing, really highlights that. Everything we know and love about Tom is injected into his portrayal of the Doctor.
Exquisite, simply exquisite.

Well, I decided to hit up an online preview on Penguin Books and... am... now on Chapter Ten with no intention of slowing down. He had me at "His august peers had gathered in a tall tower in a tall city to hear one of his tall stories." It's good. I mean really good. Like Jeeves, Moby Dick, Paddington Bear; literary classics lauded with antique dust and loving precious homes good.

You have really whetted my appetite for it, I may have to revise my listening schedule for February to make room for it sooner than planned

This is absolutely brilliant! I got the audiobook and Tom Baker is having an absolute blast reading this. He laughs and makes little comments like- "chapter X, you will love this one!" I haven't finished it yet but I can already recommend it wholeheartedly. It is much better than I expected and I am enjoying it!
