Can’t remember if I put my two penneth in here (I probably did) but my policy as of this moment is to get all the box sets on CD and then make my mind up with everything else. I don’t think I can justify paying that much for a box set and not get something physical in my hands at the end. I like CDs. I want something physical if I am spending over £10. Thinking about their Originals range whilst they are selling them as download boxsets I think potential purchasers will be put off. But offer each story as a download I personally, and potential others, would give them a go. Take Shilling & Sixpence as an example these look to be four two part stories that make up that set. If they offered each story as (say) £6 each, potentially they would get £24 but I could buy over time and wouldn’t notice. I buy novels and comic books as downloads, but the individual price does not make me question the lack of a physical entity to accompany my expenditure.

Having listened to the Originals so far, I don't think Cicero would work as separate stories (except for the first one) and Jeremiah Bourne certainly would not. ATA girl might have, but it is better as a whole set. I see what you mean, if there were individual stories people could try out to see if they liked it, but these aren't designed that way. Don't know about the ones that aren't out yet. I'm OK with just download, ( I learned how to use them when I found Big Finish) but it would be nice if someday Cicero was on CD so I could get more friends into it.

Lending Cds to people to get them into it...shocker...😇

So it begins… Dominion as download only. Now I no longer see the money I spend, I no longer see the products I purchase!

Now how did I miss this one?
I'm in the process of switching to mostly download and limiting CD purchases to limited editions, special releases and the odd stragglers to complete a set (Prisoner Volume 3 for example) due to the following:
Cost - As hinted at in the news item on CDs back in the summer, the pre-order prices are starting to creep up. As an example River Song 6 is now £25 pre-order compared to River Song 5 at £23. Admittedly that isn't much, but when you factor in postage costs in the UK (£2.50) the gap between download and CD price increases to £7.50. That's a lot when you budget for your entertainment. Coupled with all the uncertainty around the UK leaving the EU and what impact it may have on Big Finish's costs to purchase the source materials needed in CD production and I can see that gap possibly widening in the years to come.
Storage - According to my account I have 633 downloads available. If every single one of those was in a CD format I'm best guessing that I would fill two, perhaps three bookshelves. I simply don't have the room for that! Instead I store everything over a dozen micro SD cards, each the size of my thumbnail.
Convenience - With everything stored on micro SD cards I have access to dozens of tales at the tap of the screen. I can switch between listening on my tablet to listening on my phone if out walking by moving the SD card from one to the other. If I'm in the car I just have to switch on the bluetooth on my phone and connect to the car's audio player.
But..I totally get what people are saying about the physical connection to purchasing a story on CD. And despite going down this path I fully expect to have the occasional wobble now and then.. 😊

CD only for me. I like the physical product. If BF ever went download only that would be it for me, no more purchases, no question.

I would buy and preorder the originals range if they were Cd but if i don’t listen i won’t miss.Am sure if they even said limited release of 100 then they could gauge the popularity. They are already i guess concluding they are not worth putting on CD. they are such a great company with high standards it feels as if they have no confidence in their own productions what if i paid for the download and they did a u turn would i then have to pay for the cd...its tricky Jason said at big finish day that minimum re order is 500, more for a new release........and any CDs left in stock will mean a bigger tax bill for the company. He still wants to produce CDs, but going forward they are looking to have releases as digital only within two years from release......no reorder/restock CDs after a year. the only way to continue to innovate is download only, and cd production is half the cost of production........ so I think it’s unlikely they will get a physical release....... i just wish they would re look at digital covers......so a printable make your own sleeve is possible.......still not convince give digital covers would do any to piracy worse......

Wow! that surprises me. I know nothing about the industry and the costs involved, but it surprises me all the same that the physical costs are as much as they are.
If this is correct, then arguably the cheaper price for downloads is not cheap enough, does this mean downloaders are in effect subsiding CD buyers?

But back to topic...i live in a very draughty Georgian flat without the physical product of a CD or a DVD then I wouldn’t be able to insulate the house 😁

I've always maintained this is the case, whenever I've tried to work out the economics of the situation, even going back several years, it always seemed to me that downloader over paid whilst CD buyer under paid.
