Honestly, what is the big deal about post counts? I don't get it. What difference does it actually make other than absolutely none at all? So someone has over 7,000 posts? Big deal! I don't really see how this affects anyone (this is coming from someone who's been here for over two years and has less than 2,000 posts - why does the number matter?).

There is not a problem with what's being done and it's certainly not plagiarism. Plagiarism is: "the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own." That's not what's going on here. No one is posting these things in the forum and saying it's their own work. In fact, they're using it to promote someone else's work. They are not personally benefiting from it or getting any monetary gain, so it's not a copyright infringement, either, anymore than it would be when a reviewer puts the producer's image and synopsis of a story on a site to accompany their review of the story. You need to get rid of the post count as well!!A lot of problems occur because of it.Double.triple,and quadruple posting of the same update or news, just because of one-upmanship,trying to beat someone else to the punch, and have more posts than them. Its puerile and pathetic!! Just to be clear, we as a moderation team have talked about it, looked into it and found that it's not possible with our current setup/resources.
So yes, great idea, but, nothing doing.

Some people chase the post count, for some its no big deal, but for others it is. Each to their own.

What about maybe reducing the amount of posts/comments etc you can make in a 24 hour time period? Or a "weekend off" ruling, giving 2 clear days away for mental health reasons (far fetched I know but..) . Just throwing stuff out there I have seen on other forums I have been on over the last 20 years. Not saying they will work but, since we are all being open it can't hurt to have everything out there? If not- no dramas all good.

Yar, I don't know. maybe some males feel Empowered by the Sheer Volume of their Post (count) I guess.
It's an easy number to build up, but I think I'd rather have several hundred posts that actually say something of value than relatively less meaning kudos and placeholders...

I personally, 101% fully welcome members on here who don't post , to rise up and post away, different thoughts and ideas- the more opinions the better.. we are all equal and valid here no one should be made to feel lesser.

After all, that's what we're here for in the first place, isn't it? That variety and depth of conversation.

A little while back i decided to start posting and ive not looked back since. Its a great community on a whole with so many great people. Its always great to see new fans chipping in ideas and thoughts on here and keeps discussion interesting.

We're pleased to have you here. ^_^ The online world is tricky since its words on a page, but the DU is a very open and likeminded place. Case in point, I took down three(?) posts before now on this thread because another forum member managed to say the exact same thing I was only a couple minutes earlier. I've never had to do that before. And it wasn't the same poster either, it was a nice rotation of people who may not even live on the same landmass I do. Made me realise, there's a lot of people here who think on the same wavelength I do in a big, big way. People I wouldn't know otherwise, who I can hold a compelling conversation with about something I love and just enjoy their company. That's genuinely special.

Have just discovered this thread - I do not look in the Community sub-forum very often.
Mods do a good job in relation to all the important stuff - the offensive posts, etc. Multiple duplicate posts is a very minor issue compared to offensive/libellous posts.
For the record, imho the updates club does seem to have got a bit out of hand in the last few months and I find it annoying. But it's not as if they are posting neo-Nazi propaganda or anything like that, so the mods' low key approach such as deleting placeholder threads is fair enough.
Sometimes I think a temporary one-week ban for all members of the updates club would serve to calm them down, and would be a great relief for the rest of the forum ... but they haven't done anything wrong. They are just annoying. Could they not have a gentleman's agreement amongst themselves to only update the Updates thread and whoever gets in first is the only one who updates it? I like the updates thread, it is the first one I look at, but 1 update in it (and in no other threads) is enough. Or what about a rota, where one person does all the updates for a week?
As for whether season 7B of the 4DAs should be 1 thread or 4 or 5 ... well I'd vote for 4. Why not have a poll on it?

They are just annoying. I'd go with a 24 hour ban if they continued to double post after being messaged by a mod. Not as harsh as a one week ban, but maybe enough to make them think before they push the Create Post button again for a duplicate post in a different thread. (Even with this discussion here the DWMR Iron Bright release still had multiple links posted. )

On a personal level, I wish to point out I didn't post any 'out now' links for 'Iron Bright', duplicate or otherwise, {Spoiler} because I forgot it was release day and missed by about 10 hours... That might have been a bit late for getting away with another 'announcement' post, I grant you

We'd like to get rid of the post count, and it has been discussed among the moderators in the last month or two. As mentioned upthread, there are limitations with doing it using the free forum software that we are currently on. We don't have as many options or as much flexibility as we would if we were on a forum that we paid for. Not to say we might not try that route at some point

That might have been a bit late for getting away with another 'announcement' post, I grant you What was the announcement that BF kept tweeting months and maybe even years later - it was something like the extras for The Witch From The Well were now in accounts - and whatever bot they used for auto-updates just regurgitated it every so often. THAT was a late update! On topic although seeing multiple people posting the same thing can be mildly irritating I really don't think it's ban-worthy even for 24 hours.
