I'm another one who wasn't impressed enough with the First Doctor Adventures Volume 1 to run right out and get Volume 2. I keep looking at it, but not sure I'll get it right now. There's other stuff I want more.

Makes sense if you're a physical CD person, not as much sense if you're download. Pre-order is $20 per set, either way.

I've got the second set pre-ordered and am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. A group recast is a pretty tough adjustment all around, but if the 1DAs go anything like the 3DAs have, any extra patience required will most likely be richly rewarded.

I think that has turned out to be the main stumbling block for me. Clearly David Bradley is a coup and his is a re-imagining of The First Doctor rather than the familiar approximation of Hartnell from Peter Purves and William Russell. But hiring the other actors because a vague visual resemblance to the originals is a curious move for an audio company, although bringing together the Adventures in Time and Space team is an understandable angle. Whilst Jamie Glover is personable, the others are not so much - and nothing like Susan or Barbara, and that is what causes the problem for me.
Conversely, James Dreyfuss is excellent as (yet) another version of the Master, but written in a fairly generic way making me wonder why they brought the character in for this. Of them all, I'd love a return for Dreyfuss somewhere else in the Doctor Who audio-verse.

Apparently he'd already recorded one or two stories prior this one! (There's at least one with Tom Baker as someone dug up a photo of them together on Twitter)

Thanks for that, Whovitt and mark687. I'll bet there were some fruity stories being passed around the green room on that day!

The recast for The First Doctor Adventures wasn't really the issue for me. The stories were good enough, but not so good that it left me wanting more, for the most part. That said, I'll probably get volume 2 eventually. But probably not now, unless the reviews turn out to be really good.

I am ludicrously excited to hear some authentic 80s Cybermen.

I am ludicrously excited to hear some authentic 80s Cybermen. I'm probably the last person this has occured to, but Hour of the Cybermen is released on this, the 30th anniversary year of Silver Nemesis, which I believe was the last time David Banks and Mark Hardy played the Cyberleader and his best pal. I'm very excited about hearing them again too

A very packed month. Everything except the Short Trip and Torchwood. And if Machines is good I'll be getting that too.
