More the bronzes and silvers than the gold of their masterworks.
I'm very partial to Spielberg's Hook: yes, it's schmaltzy and tacky and a little bit indulgent, but it's charming and the cast sell the hell out of it.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Richard Curtis's (yes, yes, I know the jury's undecided on him being a great filmmaker) screenwriting debut: The Tall Guy. It features all the tropes and cliches he would become famous for later on (quirky supporting characters, an only-sane-man protagonist, a big climactic final act, Rowan Atkinson) but it has a lot of really funny scenes and one of the greatest made-up stage plays ever.

John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness I've enjoyed this film everytime I've watched it. I feel if it was remade it would still work as there's elements to be expanded upon

Peter Yates's Krull, which has a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as it turns out (oof). A bit predictable, but very well-directed and acted with a gorgeously realised fantasy world.
Val Guest's short stint as a director on Space: 1999's second season? It's a shaky year of stories, but "The AB Chrysalis" and "Dorzak" are some of the stronger episodes of the production block. In another timeline, Jill Townsend (here as Commander Sahala) could have made a very good Romana.

I'll echo The World's end as I think it is definitely not a lesser film compared to Edgar Wright's filmography. It was very original and didn't just recreate Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz with Aliens but did something original but keeping in line with the other two movies.

Maybe great's a little far, but I did enjoy the Farrelys 'Three Stooges' movie. I got what I wanted; slapstick, one-liners and general tomfoolery.

Elia Kazan's Wild River.
It's "lesser" as in underseen and not much discussed in comparison with his canonical classics but to me it's his most stunning achievement.

Do Terry Gilliam's Jabberwocky and Tim Burton's Ed Wood count as "lesser" films?
