Hi, All, We need to appoint 3 new moderators to the team, could this be you? Do you think there is someone here that would make an ideal moderator? Several of our original moderators have needed to step away from actively moderating the forum in the past year, for various reasons. We appreciate the time and energy they put into making this forum a pleasant place! We'd like to recruit some new moderators in order to keep the forum running well, as it has in the past. The job itself is not particularly onerous, but does require someone that logs in on a regular basis and is willing to devote some time to reading reports, expressing opinions about issues at hand and then if needed taking the agreed upon action. If you have any questions, post them here on this thread, and a moderator will endeavour to answer them. Applications and nominations close on the 31st July 2018, depending on the numbers applying. So if you want to apply, just write a brief paragraph saying what you think is important to moderation and this forum and if you want to nominate someone, make sure they know make sure they know so they can accept the nomination or refuse.

Are application paragraphs made here, or PMed to any of the current mods?

Guards, you will escort newly elected Mod Davy back to his duties in the Capitol... (Into the TARDIS!) I will travel in my TARDIS...
(*Activates forcefield, performs emergency dematerialisation from forum, wipes brow*)

I'd be a wise and benevolent mod....untill someone disagreed with me. In 6 months I'd be talking to myself. After all....that's how it all started.

Here is me throwing in my proverbial hat into the ring
I think moderation comes down to making sure all members of the forum are treated as fairly as possible. This means being able to intervene when discussions begin to break forum rules or being able to simply sit back and allow the discussion to run its course. It means being able to contribute to the community in both a conversational way and sort of watching figure, making sure that everything is not gone out of hand. It means that one should be able to listen to all parties involved and being to stay neutral, even if you have a "stake" in the game, trying not to take anything personal. It means to be friendly and cordial to anyone and everyone, no matter their opinions/views. All in all, it means looking out for the forum. I hope that you guys consider me for helping you with moderation. Have a great day.

Here's my submission: Moderation is knowing when to act, how to act, and most importantly how to be seen to be acting. Moderators should only get involved when they are needed, and make sure a situation is diffused with the minimum of disruption. The forum is a place for people to come together and discuss, to have fun and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Maintaining this is of utmost importance to a moderator while not having an overbearing presence as a moderator and regardless of their personal opinion on any given matter.
I'm in the opposite time zone from the UK, so I'd be able to help provide a watching eye at a time other moderators may be sleeping or busy with other things. When it comes to some cultural things from the UK I don't have as much awareness, so I could cast a more neutral eye if that helps.

.. So once nominations are received what's the process? An internal vote with the current Moderators or will it be a "public" vote?

I have been on many online forums for well over 20 years now with all my hobbies and interests outside of Big Finish.. I have seen the good/bad/ugly (there was a lawsuit at 1 point on a forum I was a member of LOL). My wife was also a moderator years ago on a writing forum (it's a tough gig). IMHO I can only speak for myself, besides all the awesomeness good qualities they are to possess, what I wouldn't really like to see is: Micromanaging on many levels- I have seen a long time ago Mods "insert themselves" into every conversation and making things about them. Takes away from the good natured spirit of the learned discussions that go on here daily. I would like people to blend in seamlessly and just enjoy the ride. It's ok to not have an opinion on everything. For mental health concerns I wouldn't want a mod (or even a fellow forum member) feel they have to be logged in 24/7 scanning through every word and utterance posted. This is supposed to be fun, it's not a full time national security paid day job. Set boundaries for yourself, I dont log in on my phone and at work. The world won't end if you don't visit every day . They don't have to be Mother Theresa, but would be great to have someone who is 100% respected by everyone, they have a clean sheet so to speak- no words given to them whether publically or in PM mode. Anyway that's my little bit to whomever is lucky enough! Onwards and Upwards !

Apologies if this is the wrong place to raise this, but regardless of who ends up being a new mod, is it possible for the mods to review the structure of the boards and sub-boards? It's something that could maybe do with being updated, maybe as a project for the new mods to get stuck into?
For instance, more sub-boards in the Worlds of Dr Who and the Worlds of BF boards would be helpful. On the other hand as the Jago & Litefoot and Dorian Gray ranges are both now finished with no further releases likely, maybe they could be demoted to become sub-boards?
One of the reasons given for why duplicate threads end up being created is that it is so hard to find the original thread when you search for it. So possibly even a few sub-boards in the main Dr Who board (e.g. Main Range releases, 4rth Dr Adventures, Early Adventures etc.) would make it easier to find threads?
Just a thought ...

Give it to whoever wants it, the more the merrier. There's a good chance there'd always be a mod online at any given time then. (Which would assist in nipping 'issues' in the bud.)
So they've all got my vote!
