I would be very good in this role. I would ban all trolls, you know who you are. & Implement suspensions on those that create repeat threads if they continued they would also be banned.

It's not as easy as you seem to think to ban trolls, determine if people are returning under an alternate user name, and just outright ban people. Also, any moderator candidate needs to understand that they would be working as part of a team, not making unilateral decisions on their own. We carefully consider and discuss all reports as a team and then make a decision. We don't always agree. And one person never unilaterally overrules the rest of the moderation team.

I just want to add that the job of moderator is not onerous.
This is, overall, a fairly well-behaved forum, with very few problems.
We are not all online every day, but we try to make sure to let each other know if one of us will be unavailable for any length of time.

Okay well if i was mod i would unban dalekbuster and demand he become an administrator so this forum can be renamed the nethersphere. And DB must have ultimate say in all rulings because his opinion is holy and right. Praise the talking Buster.
Okay without this being a complete sh*t post ill say i agree with Wolfie and even aussie would be nice to see. As long as they can remain unbiased and have proven this in the past then i think they should get it. I do think some potential candidates, whilst well intentioned well be a bit too hands on and i think the laid back approach like ella and jason only getting involved when necessary is whats essential for a good mod. So yeah, best of luck to all involved and will be interesting to see who will get it
(P.s. can we have an half hour reveal show hosted by Zöe Ball to reveal the new mods? If so thatll be great)

I'd also like to point out - just as a general observation - that when some forum members goad other members that they think are trolls, it generally increases problems with the forum and is not effective in calling out trolls. Not saying that you, in particular, do that, but it is a problem that we moderators have observed. The best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them and not respond to them at all.

I have been on many online forums for well over 20 years now with all my hobbies and interests outside of Big Finish.. I have seen the good/bad/ugly (there was a lawsuit at 1 point on a forum I was a member of LOL). My wife was also a moderator years ago on a writing forum (it's a tough gig). IMHO I can only speak for myself, besides all the awesomeness good qualities they are to possess, what I wouldn't really like to see is: Micromanaging on many levels- I have seen a long time ago Mods "insert themselves" into every conversation and making things about them. Takes away from the good natured spirit of the learned discussions that go on here daily. I would like people to blend in seamlessly and just enjoy the ride. It's ok to not have an opinion on everything. For mental health concerns I wouldn't want a mod (or even a fellow forum member) feel they have to be logged in 24/7 scanning through every word and utterance posted. This is supposed to be fun, it's not a full time national security paid day job. Set boundaries for yourself, I dont log in on my phone and at work. The world won't end if you don't visit every day . They don't have to be Mother Theresa, but would be great to have someone who is 100% respected by everyone, they have a clean sheet so to speak- no words given to them whether publically or in PM mode. Anyway that's my little bit to whomever is lucky enough! Onwards and Upwards ! That's a pretty good job description, sure you don't want to apply? Well if you insist Ela, I will nominate myself If I am not successful, it's not the end of the world - I have no more "power" than I did before LOL

Wolfie and Aussie would be good pics imo, I’ve never seen them cause any problems on the forum and they both seem like lovely chaps.

We want to know what forum members think about the members that have been nominated for moderator, whether self-nominated or suggested by others.

I would also say that @wolfie53 and aussiedoctorwhofan would be great choices, as would mrperson , number13 and @davygallagher , that is unless I have missed something major, but I wouldn't think so . Though come to think of it, that Wolfie guy is pretty sketchy come to think of it...

I guess I'll throw my hand up too. When I was still in high school I was invited to moderate on the forums for Day of Defeat. At that point, it was maybe the fourth or fifth most popular Half-Life mod. Being a WW2 game, the discussion boards invited invited an unhealthy amount of Nazi crap, and there was a lot of juvenile teenage racism that had to be dealt with. I also started to push for the mod team to start treating homophobia as being as unacceptable as racism - this was in the days when it was still 'acceptable' to throw "fag" around as a generic insult. It took a little while, but the team came around and agreed, and began enforcing it as part of the rules. Eventually DoD was purchased by Valve and the website became an official corporate holding. I (and to be fair, a bunch of other moderators) stayed on for a number of years, so I suppose technically I can say I've moderated professionally too The only reason I gave it up was because they decided to shut down the DoD site and move everything over to the Steampowered forums, where a) they wanted us to only cover that one single subforum; and b) it was clear the administrators just didn't give a damn. As a general rule, I prefer a laissez-faire approach to moderation--I like letting people sort out their own differences without having to step in as a mod. In my experience, this serves the community best long-term because it forces people to learn to get along (or make use of their ignore list). Stepping into a disagreement that hasn't become hostile, even if it's well-intentioned to 'defuse' the situation, is something that I think is counterproductive in the grand scheme of things. But I think that even within that context, ground rules are important. Racism, homophobia, transphobia (and other -phobias), and personal insults are absolutely not acceptable. Depending on the context, I think any one of these could warrant anything from a timeout to a permanent ban. I'm also in Canada, so that's a few hours extra potential coverage while you UK folks are in bed Anyway, that's my two cents And I won't be offended if you decide I'm the wrong fit. I'm perfectly happy as a regular user here!

Seriously, I think we have some really good candidates here, I'd be very happy working alongside them.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Summary of application and nominations so far
mrperson number13 @davygallagher Please post your support or concerns you may have about any of those that have applied (don't comment on nominations unless and until the person chooses to accept), please keep comments civil, calm and respectvul, and remember potential mods, if you find critical views a problem, being a mod probably isn't a job for you.
