Can you remember the first film you saw in theatres, and what was it like?

I *think* it was the Tim Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake. I turned around and put my face of the cinema seat during the scene when Violet becomes a blueberry because it always scared me when I saw it in the original on VHS. Yes, I’m young.

The Rescuers - me (aged 8) and my sister (aged 5) were taken by a student that lived across the road from us. Talking to my mum years later about how come, she said she thought he wanted an excuse to see the film himself.
I loved it, I was totally lost in the fantasy of it all.

My parents saw Back to the Future when my mum was 8 months pregnant with me. My parents tell me that the first movie they took me to see as a kid was Bambi (one of the many times it was re-released). The first movie I remember going to was opening night of Star Trek VI with my dad.

The Muppet Movie. I was young enough I half thought it was real. I think I was about 4.

Gosh you guys are all young. I'm sure I must have seen a movie or two before it but the one that I clearly remember was my Mom taking me to a screening of the original King Kong some time in the late 60s when I was around 5 or 6. Movie blew me away. It still does and it is the one film that made me fall in love with movies. The only one which I have a vivid memory of is seeing Jaws with my family on its opening weekend. That also made a huge impression on me.

Ugh, not a good memory really in retrospect. My Dad took me and my little brother in the mid 70s to a mid afternoon re-run of Peter Pan, but we got there late and the both of us kids were totally baffled and kept asking questions, knowing NOTHING of "theatre etiquette" and soon my Dad got fed up and pulled us out and left. And with that, my parents didn't bother trying again for many years.

I'm told the first movie I attended in a theater was Star Wars A New Hope ('78 re-release) when my babysitter decided to go see it and took me with. I was a toddler.
My very first memory I have of a movie theater is vague flash of walking or being carried into into one playing Empire Strikes Back, with Vader on the screen.
The clearest early memory I have of *going to a theater to see a movie* is Return Of The Jedi at a mall, which has stuck in my mind because the space ahead of the theater had a display of stand-ups with pre-production art on them. Just a little over 6 years old.
I know I saw ET and Dark Crystal in theaters the previous year, tho. But I don't really recall any of those experiences.
Did I mention Star Wars?

Just a little over 6 years old. I remember standing in line, in the rain, to see Return of the Jedi the day it opened and being so pissed off afterwards because I really, really disliked it. It was essentially the end of any emotional attachment I had to the Star Wars franchise.

I know I saw a lot of films on video, but in a cinema... Hmm... It might have been Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone? According to my father, I stormed out after discovering that they kept him underneath the stairs. He always thought I was going to be a civil rights lawyer.

Superman 2 in 1981, they stopped the film just before Clark rescues Lois so the sweet trolly lady could come around & i remember having ice cream in those little round tubs (yes they stopped films halfway back then) this film still holds much nostalgia for me.

Finding Nemo is the first one I remember, the opening scene of the film left one hell of nightmarish impression. It's actually a bloody scary film from a kids perspective-very good film though.
Probably wasn't my first time in a cinema, but it's the earliest memory I've got.

It was a Disney 'Winnie the Pooh'. My parents have told me that it was a double bill with "The Sword in the Stone", so that must make it "Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore", which was the support feature for TSiTS's re-release in early 1983. So I can't even have been two-and-a-half. Apparently they reckoned on having the choice of leaving after the first feature, but I was happy enough watching both.

I never got Disney as a child. fond memories of my nephew as a kid will we watch the lion king?-no there’s a bad lion in that. will we watch Snow White?-no there’s a bad woman in thats will we watch beauty and the beast ? No there’s a bad beast in that. How about 101 dalmations-no there’s a bad woman in that. What did he end up enjoying?Lord Of The Rings/Star Wars-there’s no one bad in that?

A Veiw to a Kill, I would've been just over 2 years old but I have memories of watching Diamonds are Forever Goldfinger, Thunderball and Moonraker on TV beforehand.
1st Disney was Little Mermaid (for a Classmate's Birthday)
