The Iron Legion
Ah that was fun. Not the best Big Finish ever but probably one of the most action-packed. It leaps from set piece to set piece, and they all seem to make a very smooth transition to audio (I need to track down a copy of this comic as the art for these scenes must be glorious). Tom Baker is clearly relishing this more bizarre material, and it’s a joy to hear.

The Star Beast
Tom Baker is on fine form again and Meep is delightfully evil. Sharon makes a fine debut here too.
Would definitely be interested in more adaptations or original stories with Sharon.

Gotta gush over FosseVerden one more time. One of the best things on tv right now.

I have been saving these stories for a while...spacing...out....new...Fourth...Doctor...adventures.
Finally finished both and I would echo what others have said these were both bizarre and brilliant! Plus if you are of a certain age The Star Beast was a real trip back in time.
I really hope we will get more of these.
A question to those in the know - is the ending with Sharon from the comics or an amendment by Alan Barnes to justify why she would travel with the Doctor?

It is an amendment by Alan Barnes, but it's taken from an element that did appear later on for Sharon in the Fourth Doctor comics. Different means with the same result.

The Divergent Universe is better than Wikipedia. I am now trying to decide if that makes more Big Finish stories with Sharon more or less likely!?

Finally finally got round to these two stories in the last few days.
Wow, what a ton of fun they are! Just....crazy, bonkers, totally unexpected fun! I don't read any DW comics and have no intention of starting....but I'd be 110% on board for further audio adaptations!

Just saw and read these adventures. I have a nice trade paperback with the comic strips from DW Weekly (which I had yet to read), so I listened to the adventure in the car and then read up to that point in the comic and then continued the next day. Lots of fun hearing and seeing them.
The regular interviews and the 40+ minute Pat Mills interview were great as well.

I was hoping with new activity in this thread that volume 2 had been announced.

Finally caved in and got this. I just was in the mood for something silly and bonkers to take my mind off things and to relax tonight. And reading these reviews here, this might fit the bill. I am not the biggest fan of the 4th Doctor nor of the Meep. I just hope it is not too annoying. And maybe, if more people get this, we might get more of these. Still hoping for Sixie, Peri and Frobisher in The Gift. Never say never. Right. Settle in, get my cozy blanket and find out if this is as good as the reviews say.

Well, this was delightfully fun and bonkers. The Star Beast definitely was the better of the two. I am surprised myself how much less annoying than thought the Meep was. Yes, this was silly and nothing to take serious. But I enjoyed myself. Still hope thy do more.

The Iron Legion by Pat Mills and John Wagner, Adapted by Alan Barnes
This was fun, but in all honesty, felt a bit like endless noise. There is some great characters and very fun set pieces, but nothing really has any weight to it, and the plot is paper thin. I thought Morris was a really fun character especially, and Baker is on fine form here as well.
The Star Beast by Pat Mills and John Wagner, Adapted by Alan Barnes
This was stronger than the last one, however, I do think it’s still just a good story as opposed to something more. The Doctor doesn’t really have a proper role until the second half of the story, and while the plot is a lot better than The Iron Legion, it still doesn’t need to be a four parter. However, Rhianne Starbuck is fantastic as Sharon, and it would be quite nice to hear more stories from her tenure as 4’s companion!
