Ooh I do hope that they’ll use that excellent version of the theme that’s only appeared in the Sylvester Novel Adaptations. Also War Doctor and 8th Doctor Time War. It is a great theme and would fit well, however due to it's almost overuse, I hope it doesn't have the theme.

What a string of Seventh Doctor material in the last quarter of the year! There is A LOT of 7th Doctor to ring out the year. Which wouldn't normally enthrall me, as I think McCoy is the weakest of the Doctors on audio. However, these NA stories featuring Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej sound interesting, and the shorter format - coupled with the new companions - might bring some life back in to the Seventh Doctor audios for me. So I am actually looking forward to these.

Well I knew something was coming with Chris and Roz and to have it in a bundle with the Comic Strip Adaptations AND out in November makes this top of my list of preorders...next week sadly as I just spent on Early Adventures Series 4.

I'm going back & forth on preordering that. It's only four months and I can probably wait until the run is complete and save on shipping.

I can only do downloads because shipping to the US is so expensive

They celebrate Benny's 20th at Big Finish, not Doctor Who's.

I'm confused. Benny's specials & the Big Finish Originals range are tied into the 20th of Big Finish as a company and all the Doctor Who specials are tied into the anniversary of BF producing Who specific material.

While I suppose that Benny and the Originals are both tied into Big Finish's 20th, I'd consider them two different celebrations. Benny's releases are very much focussed on her. Each story in The Story So Far and In Time covers a different era of her Big Finish run, while Treasury collects some of her [presumably] best short stories from the past 20 years. In contrast, the Originals are very much Big Finish focussed. That they have the writing talent and financial support to produce entirely original material.

Ehhh, it's slightly different. I'd like it for the continuity. In the same way, I hope each of these is a single hour-long episode, rather than four two-parters, to match Original Sin & Damaged Goods.

I was looking forward to these but the one hour running times are making me feel cautious. I don’t want these to feel rushed. Eh, I think the hour format suits the tone of the New Adventures better then splitting them into serialised episodes. There's also the question on how many NA-darkness Big Finish might want in a regular style release, as well. (Given the approach the Novel Adapations took)

Eh, I think the hour format suits the tone of the New Adventures better then splitting them into serialised episodes. There's also the question on how many NA-darkness Big Finish might want in a regular style release, as well. (Given the approach the Novel Adapations took) Maybe, but there were a lot of novels like Shakedown, Cold Fusion, All-Consuming Fire, Blood Harvest, etc; which felt as though they were written to be six-parters. Shakedown, in particular, with its home video release. I'm not as fussed here, primarily because they'll have been written for this length already. It'll be interesting to see what it feels like when it comes out.
Also, just to right a common misconception -- the NAs weren't just darkness. The darkness gets discussed because it was often done really well and that wasn't always necessarily gore. It could be anything from the Doctor choosing our universe over another's just because we happened to live in it to exploring the fear of growing old, feeble and wondering if you wasted your life. Stuff that can hit really close to home in an existential sense. Nevertheless, in amongst all of that hurt is also the comfort. There's Benny playing a game of Guess Who with him while he's working, him having to ask what exactly "groupies" are when throwing her wedding, meditating so hard on a table that he drifts off the edge headfirst onto the floor... The same book that gives us this, from the Doctor: Also gives us this from him as well, in an ancient Japanese dialect: Variety is the name of the game.

(...) Variety is the name of the game. The New Adventures more than anything to me are capital-a Ambitious. I've read 21(!) of them now and even in the weaker ones there's a certain spark, whereas with the weaker BBC books, I find myself getting bored. I'll always take mad-but-misguided over middle-of-the-road.
