Okay this Set was brilliant.
It only reinforces the sheer necessity for Chris and Roz to turn up in the Main Range. So bloody refreshing.

OMG that would be the most awesome thing EVER!!! It would be right up BFs alley! Is the series planned for TV or movie and they cannot get the rights?
I know that Aaronovitch has written for the Doctor Who TV series, but I do not think he has written for Big Finish?
But just imagine the awesomeness of Peter Grant in audio format. I wonder who they could use as his actor... same for Nightingale... hmm... I think I might even prefer audio to film since I think I might only be disappointed when I see it on film and had it imagined so much cooler and more vibrant- but for that they would need quite a large budget I guess.
I just spend 1.5h reading and I was sucked in again right away (starting out with some great action). Written in the same style as the other books and feeling right at home.
Cannot wait to find out more- I am going back to the Folly...

Ben's done some BF - he wrote two of the stories in Benny's Treasury set, Earth Aid for The Lost Stories (pretty rubbish that one) and he wrote Gone Fishing for the WONDERFUL Short Trips book range, some of the best BF ever. That one even introduced a short lived companion, William, who travelled with Sixie. William had a fascinating arc, crossing multiple Doctors.

The Trial of a Time Machine is brilliant.
I was a little nervous after reading comments that it was less the NAs and more like if Sylv returned in 2005. Nothing against RTD’s era, it’s fabulous, but it did make me wonder if they’d been inspired by Damaged Goods more than the NAs as a whole.
Anyway, I have to disagree with the comments. It’s wonderfully high concept with a very NA portrayal of the Doctor. Chris and Roz are a great pairing. I thought it fitted the hour long format well too.
I’m excited for the rest.

I agree with that assessment. McCoy can be maddening to me but when he is plugged in, he can be fantastic. He is so plugged in with this one. The whole thing just plays. A great start to the set.

A very entertaining set of stories...i know people love the hour longs but i feel there is more scope in a four parter and more development and would love the next set to be two four part stories.

(This is the Rivers of London thread, right? Not a spoiler thread for a boxset I haven't listened to yet??)

Having listened to all 4 now, it fits into the NAs nicely, for the most part. Episode 2 is the weaker link but still enjoyable, and the 2 gothic stories are the highlight of the set.
I wish there was chance for this team in a Main Range story, with the 2/4 part setup.
I also wish there was a “contemporary” story. The vibe of Damaged Goods would be spot on.
Definitely on board for future volumes though. Let’s give Ace & Mel a rest, get boxsets with Chris & Roz and get Raine in the Main Range.

Not those double CD jewel cases again oh that's great it means i can't put them next to my Novel Adventures now cause my CD rack don't fit thick double CD cases.
Not cool BF, i wish you would have released this as 4 individual CD cases like your other box sets.

Hey, your cast suggestions would be great! I really hope they are planning something we do not know yet.... We can but dream.

I’m dying to listen to Vanguard, but I’m stuck in meetings and calls all day. I was hoping I’d have an hour doing something routine that doesn’t require much focus!

I am about to start listening to these but can anybody who has heard them give me a bit of information. We are about to start doing four individual covers and I am going to have one Companion on two covers and the other Companion on the other two covers. Would you say all the stories feature them both equally or do certain stories sway to one or the other. Any help most welcome.

Vanguard is perhaps weaker than The Trial of a Time Machine, a lot more rompy with a little less meat to it, but it's still a great installment. McCoy continues to be on fine form and Chris & Roz's own side stories are good. Poor old Chris goes through the wringer! The Trial of a Time Machine is brilliant. I was a little nervous after reading comments that it was less the NAs and more like if Sylv returned in 2005. Yeah, I agree with that. I often find he's better when he's portraying the Doctor as further away from his TV persona; i.e. his solo pre-TV Movie and New Adventures stories. When he's given something more traditional - Mel and/or Ace - he sometimes has the habit of just reading the lines. The complete opposite with this so far, though!

Would you say all the stories feature them both equally or do certain stories sway to one or the other. Any help most welcome. Chris and Roz feature quite prominently together in the first one, whereas the Doctor takes more of a backseat. Chris is probably more prominent in the next two. And then they’re just as relevant as each other in the last one, but I’d maybe pick Roz over Chris if you had to choose one over the other as there’s references to Roz’s Family in the story.
