Lie of Ruins was a good start to the set. Paul McGann is on fine form in this, really getting across a Doctor who is on the fringes of the Time War, tired by it but not willing to fight. The teaser in the podcast ends at just the right time: Just before the revelation about Gallifrey. It makes for some interesting interaction between the Doctor, Benny & River, who are three characters at different ends of the Time War; present, past and future, respectively. River's chat with the Doctor as they overlook what's happened to Gallifrey is beautifully written and performed.
River's comment about not erasing the Doctor's mind was interesting. I wonder if that's setting something for the future, or if it's an off hand remark about the fact she's had to erase his mind many times previously. The remark about the next time he meets her was curious too, again I wonder if it's setting something for the future, or is another off hand remark. There is a post-credits scene, just so you're all aware. And it sounds like we're heading back to the very first story with The Sirens of Time.

Well, the wait is over at last!
Just something I was wondering, with regards to how BF dish out their Limited Editions. Are they assigned in order of purchase - ie, the very first person to place an order will get No. 0001, then 0002 and so on, or are they just sent our randomly as they work through the stock? Just wondering, because if it is a first come, first served, then I'd like to think that my date-of-announcement pre-order should surely guarantee me a first-100 number. (I'd hope!)

{Spoiler}Even if we all knew there was something off about her, the reveal of who Ria really was... man, that really caught me off guard. Poor Doctor.
Btw, did anyone get what the ghosts say at the end? The names they tell the Doctor. It's really difficult to understand what they're saying.

(Part 1) I couldn't make out the names the voices were saying either, but I loved the little tease at the end right before the credits!

Off to an interesting start with Lies in Ruins{Spoiler} Nice interaction between Benny and River as promised, interesting characterisation of the eighth Doctor (this seems to be the nearest to The Night of the Doctor that Big Finish have portrayed him), some great twists and ideas and an intriguing little hint after the credits (not totally surprising if I’m honest).
One issue; couldn’t for the life of me figure out what the Ghosts said after the Doctor left them-something about the universe breaking?

xlozdob, Digi & sherlock, I couldn't make it out either. I did forget to mention that: It does seem to be the closest to The Night of the Doctor we've heard, although not explicit. I agree about the revelation of Ria too, poor Doctor! The Split Infinitive with dinner now.

The Split InfinitiveI enjoyed this one rather less, which really throws me because as a rule I almost always enjoy McCoy and I pretty much universally love anything that Mr Dorney writes. I don't want to sound overly critical here -- it's not that I think there was anything wrong with it -- rather, I have never followed the Counter-Measures range, so the assumed familiarity with the characters completely passed me by. And then to take that assumption and apply it to two separate plot threads, made it hard for me to find the story engaging. (Part 2) Even having listened all the way through, I had a hard enough time engaging that I'm still not totally clear on what this story was about. Something about the Doctor and Ace trying to catch a "sparkly" person in two different time periods? And then 'merging' that person / firing them off to some other time period by making them touch, which for some reason does that instead of dangerously sparking out (the Blinovitch Limitation Effect)?
Also (not a complaint) : caught me off guard that Peter Davison read the credits for this one? I can tell that I'd like this one a lot more if I had something (or indeed, anything at all) invested in Counter-Measures.

The Sacrifice of Jo Grant
I admit I was kind of dreading this one. Much as I love Katy and Ingrid and Jemma, I just cannot get on board with a recast Doctor. Fortunately this story grabbed me right from the start; I love seeing (well, hearing) classic UNIT-era characters alongside modern UNIT, and the story and characters just hooked me fro beginning to end. Some of the performances in this one were just wonderful... - Osgood hyperventilating as she realizes she's talking to the Third Doctor cracked me right up - Kate encouraging Jo to go spend time with "her Doctor," oh my heart - Kate hesitating over the chance to talk to her dad, who from her POV has passed away some time ago, was heartbreaking. And Jo's little pep talk to encourage her was just lovely - The Brig! Was that a repurposed clip of Nick Courtney, or a really talented imitator? I honestly couldn't tell....lovely, lovely moment though! - Jo getting a chance to go to a pub with her Doctor, even though it's not Pertwee, was really nice. I wish they'd managed to find a way to fit Mike or Benton into the story, but at the same time I think that might've felt a bit fan service-y rather than relevant to the plot. So Jo's 'dying' monologue while she was in the whatever-it-is-we're-calling-the-temporo-spatial-tear-space....is she one of the ghostly voices heard in Lies in Ruins? I don't care for recasts, and despite all the praise I've heard for the 3DAs on this forum it still sounds wrong to my ear. But even in spite of that, I thought this episode was just terrific! I really, really enjoyed it! And now, unfortunately, I have to go to work, so the rest of the stories will have to wait...

I can tell that I'd like this one a lot more if I had something (or indeed, anything at all) invested in Counter-Measures. I can’t say I disagree with this. I’ve watched - and love - Remembrance of the Daleks and I’ve listened to The Assassination Games. I wouldn’t call myself familiar with the team and its setup, certainly not the 70s incarnation, so I couldn’t quite get into the story. I felt like I was an outsider listening in. I think I’d like and understand the story much better if I’d listened to the Counter Measures sets and been more familiar with the teams. The story structure is clever, but as it is, I think it was a mistake to assume everyone would be familiar.
