I noticed that Jago & Litefoot & Strax is listed on Amazon as being available January 31. It's always been listed as November release on the Big Finish site. On today's McGann birthday news story, regarding The Diary of River Song and Doom Coalition 2, there's the following line
The Diary of River Song is listed as being available Mar 31 on Amazon (January release from Big Finish).
Looks like the early release of The Last Adventure via BF only was just the bringing forward of a new policy of offering us much earlier access when we buy direct from bigfinish.com - worth noting!

The Tenth Doctor stories for next May are going to be solely available from Big Finish, so between that and this, it does indeed appear that they are trying to get more sales in that first month or so. This might be a response to all the chatter on the old forum about how cheaper the CDs for The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure were on Amazon (meaning fewer sales for Big Finish directly).

For BF to take the decision to withhold titles from Amazon till AFTER the release month must mean Amazon were getting a bigger slice of sales then anyone could've guessed.

It's same for Book Depository. It's a clever strategy. At the very least it'll mean more money for Big Finish to spend on it's productions, fantastic writers, casts and directors and amazing lunches.

Good for Big Finish. Amazon can underprice in the way small companies can't making it very unfair.

The Tenth Doctor stories for next May are going to be solely available from Big Finish, I think people are misreading that because of poor wording. It says "Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016 - exclusively on the Big Finish website." reads to me like the exclusive part is the date - it's an exclusive in May - not the release itself. The part about the deluxe goes on to state it's "Limited to just 5,000 copies and available exclusively from bigfinish.com" which isn't ambiguous but the first part - about the range in general - is badly worded and open to interpretation. I'd be very, very surprised if the unlimited edition is exclusive to BF.

Regards mark687 It wouldn't surprise me, I know many won't follow the same model as I do, but basically these days, unless I already know and trust a retailer, I order from Amazon.

The gap on Amazon pricing some releases was so big - The Last Adventure being £28 there instead of £40 at BF a prime example - that this is a good idea. They won't convince all but some will always be willing to pay full price to get it before anywhere else.
For my own purchases, I'm mixing direct orders with Amazon and ebay as well as relegating some ranges like Vienna (which I wasn't keen on having heard the first 4 stories) to waiting on eventual sales. There's just so much product now I'm not paying top dollar for everything.

I want to support Big Finish, so I buy direct from them as much as my budget allows. I pre-order releases I HAVE to have. Everything else waits for a sale.
Having a period of exclusivity - especially on high profile releases - is a smart move for BFs bottom line.
Personally, I felt The Last Adventure box set was overpriced from BF. I'm really happy to see that the Tenth Doctor Limited Edition set is only £5 more than buying the releases separately. The smaller print run also makes it more desirable for me.

From today's BF News.
You can pre-order Doctor Who: The War Doctor 1 – Only the Monstrous today from the Big Finish website for only £20. With the set's general release not until the end of February 2016, it's a perfect chance to be one of the first to hear it!
So at least 2 months in advance for Boxsets then.

People who want to buy it elsewhere (like Amazon) can, while those that buy it direct from Big Finish get it sooner. I don't have a problem with that; it makes good business sense for Big Finish.

Thing is, Big Finish could have easily got more sales directly from them for The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure if they'd offered a special pre-order price (as they usually do with box sets). £28 preorder would have sufficed. In the current economy, many of us cannot afford to be loyal to a particular site if we see something offered for a lesser price on a different one.

Hopefully, exclusive releases will turn out a good way for Big Finish to attract people to the BF website and will result in more direct sales customers.
Besides, I think it pays to follow their website - I think if you check for Big Finish news items at least every other day, they might quickly end up saving you more money that Amazon etc might?

I think the idea behind The Last Adventure pricing was that the physical copy was more of a collector's item to add to the event with the artwork (hence the cost) and that the download was there for customers who simply wanted the story and the extras.

That wouldn't have helped matters. Honestly, I think Big Finish would have got more sales if they had the pre-order price £28 and the final price £40 but I know nothing about business.

They'd have got even more orders if the pre-order price was £0.99, but price points have to be set to make money.
