In the books, the Doctor’s clothes get destroyed in (IIRC) Seeing I, and are replaced by identical clothes made bespoke for him by his favourite tailors in Sydney. Sam actually comments that he replaced a Halloween costume with a copy of a Halloween costume made out of real velvet and silk. He must have someone type of replicator in the Tardis surely? At least I always assumed he had. It’s a Kate Orman novel, one of the features of that is a reference to the Doctor getting his clothes made by a bespoke tailor in Sydney (or, just for variety, New Sydney).

They've photoshopped older McGann's face to the TV movie look. It stands out a bit because we're not used to it, but I think it looks good overall. Wonder if he ever replaced that outfit for a similar one occasionally - surely a Halloween costume wasn't meant to be worn non-stop for years and years! That sounds like our Doctor alright. Eight goes through a number of costume changes, I remember him wearing grey-and-black after Interference (needs verifying), a Victorian ensemble with a tophat... but he always comes back to some variation on that initial outfit. A snazzy blue version of it features in in the DWM comics:
I like to think that each incarnation has a certain fondness for their belongings. Four's scarf, Sixie's coat, Two's recorder, Seven's umbrella, and so on. When they get damaged (or outright destroyed), they go out of their way to try and replace it with the closest thing they can find. Some are quicker to acquire spares than others. (The room of sonic screwdrivers feels like thing started by the Seventh Doctor, for example; he's something of a magpie in later life.)

Cover revealed: I decided to sleep on it rather than make a post yesterday. All I am going to say is having seen this cover I am now less looking forward to the release than I was previously.

Full marks if there's a reversible cover with the sidebar design so it matches the rest of the range.

I have never been a fan of Lucie (I find her mildly annoying), but I have pre-ordered this anyways because the 8th Doctor audios have been going from strength to strength for a while now. I am however indifferent to this cover, neither feel better or worse about my decision to pre-order.
Only thought I had- oh not Daleks again. Oh well, it is a story by Nick. That can go either way.

I think the cover would look less odd to me if they'd tweaked the costume and hair as well. It's the juxtaposition of older McGann and early 8 that's throwing me off a bit. I don't mind the older look at all – it fits nicely with my placement of the Lucie adventures as after the novels and comics and lines up well with the Dark Eyes covers – but the wig looks even more out of place on present day McGann than it did on 1996 McGann and it seems odd to imagine him still wearing the exact same clothes that much later in his lifetime...

Having lived with the cover for awhile I can safely say....I don’t like it.
My biggest complaint with it is the fact it is so dissimilar to the Big Finish Lucie Miller covers around it.
It looks like someone thought it would be a good idea to make it look like a RTD era spinoff. Perhaps with the period these missing adventures relate to that was exactly the feel they wanted to evoke.

Well, that sounds interesting and like quite a bit of fun!
I just hope they tone down Lucy a bit...

Oh no. Just the opposite. I hope to press play and hear my old Lucie Miller coming through my earbuds. I get she's not to everyone's taste, but if you tone her down it just wouldn't be the same. But seriously, it sounds like these stories are in and around seasons 1 and 2. She doesn't really tone down at all till after Death In Blackpool.

I was under the impression that this is set between Series 1 and 2.

I think I pre-ordered this is the hope that Lucie would grow on me... just like Donna in the TV series who I did not like at first. However, I am now through listening and re-listening to most of the 8th Doctor adventures and while there are a few very good ones, most of them were a bit average for me (compared to the later box sets) and I still think Lucie is slightly annoying. Maybe Lucie is like the character Rose- either you like her or you hate her.
However, I am really happy for Big Finish doing all these things. There is something for everyone, and sometimes I am surprised myself how much I like something- for example, once upon a time I would never have listened to Torchwood and now I loved "The Green Life".

I have to admit I found Lucie thoroughly annoying. I much preferred Tamsin.

Listened to the free excerpt today and was impressed how effortlessly McGann and Smith slipped back into capturing this era. It's like they'd never been away (I laughed out loud at Lucie's "me coccyx!). I was on the fence about this set, but the preview is making the purchase very tempting....

Thanks to a no-sleep night, I was frazzled enough when I saw BF's "what's new" page that I thought this was out. Boo.
