While this holds a spot in my heart as this was definitely my first exposure to H2G2, back on PBS in the 80s. I bought the DVD set long ago... and I'm not sure if I want to double dip (haven't even looked to see if there is a Region 1 USA release of this). I'm fine with my DVD copy of the story itself. The extras, well, seem nice but I suspect that half of them are somewhere on YouTube or will be.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is one of those shows I enjoyed first time around, at about 10/11 years of age. Having bought it on VHS and DVD, it has had some curiosity value to revisit, but no more. To me it is of it's time and indeed I quite liked the interpretation of the film. It wasn't bad, was it? I agree with you here. What I possess on DVD satisfies my tick box mentality of having it on hand for the occasional retrospective, but to me it lacks the timelessness of Doctor Who of the same period. I am not sure what a Blu Ray would provide in terms of enhancement, bar a few location scenes (first episode primarily) as I have said earlier in this thread, the Video of the time is not the sharpest quality.

They repeated it on BBC2 about the time that the film came out which, even 15 years ago, for BBC1 or 2 to show any retro, cult shows was as rare as hen's teeth. Anniversaries or tributes when someone has died aside, it's about 25 years since the Beeb showed classic Who as ongoing repeats. Thank God for cable - UK Gold is how I got to see all of Who in the 90s.
