I wonder why with the increased popularity of vinyl that Chimes Of Midnight and Spare Parts haven't sold out I would imagine the price is a big factor. Those two MR releases are four LP's in a deluxe box, so they're more costly to produce than the single LP style of the current BF stories released through Demon Records. Agreed - the significant cost (though reasonable for what they are as a quality product) when you already likely have a CD copy, brings into mind trade-off thoughts. You can order a good few 8th Doctor box sets for the same money. for example, or put in a MR subscription for 12 months. One way to go forwards may be to release something exclusive to Vinyl and DL (cutting out the CD format), but in greater numbers than the 1500 or so we have seen with the single disk 4th and 10th Doctor releases so far. With a DL code included (like back to black vinyl) it can appeal to those without a record player too. As with the B&M sets though, a cap on purchases is sorely needed to put a halt to the e-bay scalpers, mind. It just spoils the fun in looking for them when too many are hoovering them up for profit.

Purely price ATM.. I remember doing a dry run on the BF site for the "50th" vinyl.. It was almost a mortgage payment for me! The postage and handling alone they wanted was Just under AUST $200..
Nope.

Everyone who ordered 'Death and the Queen' vinyl from HMV for home delivery, post a sentry on the battlements to keep a sharp lookout!
Email received today to say it's on the way.

They are most definitely Collector items and I think definitely for Big Finish days were you might succumb to a special purchase. I much prefer CD and would even purchase the original range with NEW Updated covers.I dont think we will see the end of a physical product. I personally do not like vinyl and was so glad when Cds were created as it was the end of those Who Scratched my LP fights and arguements in my household 🤪😂

re: that rolling stone article...
It only makes sense - CDs are a digital format, downloads are as well (although compressed), but are so much easier to deal with, and for most people, have nearly the same sound quality. So of course CDs will fade to black while various format digital downloads take over. Off in the distance is an analog format... vinyl. As an analog format, it falls outside the ropes of the digital domain. So of course it will still be there in a separate niche once Compact Disk sales hit the gutter.

My apologies if this may not be entirely relevant to this thread, but notice that this tweet features vinyl covers of Cold Vengeance and Zygon Hunt without the labels... Well, somebody has asked about Infamy of the Zaross. So does it actually exist? Sorry for the (prolonged) delay, but here it is: Infamy of the Zaross without the HMV sticker!

Why do fans buy these vinyl editions? I'm not knocking it, I have some myself, I just don't know why I have them. Will I ever open and play them, it's very doubtful, do I need them when I have the CD, no not really

I have 3 record players and about 4 cd player systems still and 2 cassette players.
To me in order of preference. CD's, Vinyl, if no cd and d/l only, then begrudgingly will buy d/l (has only happened x2 time thankfully).

Vinyl is about the experience as well as the collector aspect. We all multitask these days, but when I put a vinyl on, be it Big Finish or something else, I do not do other things, I just stop and let the world go by,the phone is down and on silent and I just enjoy whatever I'm listening to.

I recall the postage and handling alone was over AUST $100 (?) not including the actual vinyl!. I have physically seen the vinyl package at a Who Convention it looked glorious
