Emily Woodward has stated that she is currently recording the role of Tara King for the upcoming Big Finish audio book box set ‘THE AVENGERS: STEED AND KING’ with the titles Wild Wild Wild Wild West, Under the Weather, Spycraft, & ...Now You Don't.

Looking forward to hearing more about this. I wonder if they are new stories or adaptations of the comic strips from TV Comics? (I can't think of any other possible sources as none of the unbroadcast John Bryce Tara King episodes, the Tara King Avengers novels or the comic strips and short stories that appeared in The Avengers annuals had those titles).

Sounds intriguing. Really looking forward to hearing this one.
Coming to The Avengers through the reruns of the Steed and Tara King episodes on Channel 4 many years ago, Steed and Tara have always been my favourite Avengers partnership. From the brief summaries, these seem like typical stories from that era. Fingers crossed that they use the Steed and Tara version of The Avengers theme tune too!

The "Steed verbs X, Tara verbs Y" line at the beginning of each story's blurb is a really nice touch as well. It's the little things.

Sounds great! And it has the Tara King era version of The Avengers theme tune playing in the background 😊 Can't wait to listen to all four episodes next month.

That’s good as I feel that I need convincing to buy these. I have absolutely loved the previous Steed & Mrs Peel releases, but I never liked Tara King and I really don’t like the cover and the £90 price tag for twelve stories just seems expensive. I bought the Comic Strips for half that price for two thirds of the content (£45 for 8 discs).

I guess The Avengers is quite a niche show so presumably has to be priced accordingly.

Interestingly, in today's podcast and the recent trailer this release is being referred to as Steed and Tara King volume one. I'm assuming they haven't changed it's name!
Personally, I'd have preferred it if these comic strip adaptations were numbered Steed and Mrs Peel vols 1-3 and Steed and Tara King vols 1-2, but I guess it might be confusing from a sales perspective to have two vols 1, etc, under the comic strip adaptations banner.

Just reading the article about this in the latest Vortex. It’s strange that the article has come out after the release of the set!?
But I found it interesting that this set features a sequel to a Emma Peel story that they haven’t written and recorded! In fact all the stories sound interesting and I am sure they will be very enjoyable.
I am surprised no one is yet posting any feedback on this release.
I did think that due to the hefty price I might only pick up the next Emma Peel set, but I am tempted to get the bundle later in the year when I don’t have so many audios still to listen to and so many pre-orders coming.

Just finished listening to this and overall I'd rate it as my favourite release in the comic strip adaptations series so far. All four episodes were great and, although each was very different, they really managed to capture the atmosphere of the TV show.
Probably my favourite was Now You Don't, which even had a flashback to an Emma Peel story that hasn't been written yet! Hopefully it will appear in Vol 4 when that's released next year.
Emily Woodward is a great Tara King, but for me the standout performance was Christopher Benjamin's portrayal of Mother - he's just so wonderfully grumpy!

Only listened to the first three stories so far, 'It's A Wild, Wild, Wild West' and especially 'Under The Weather' were terrific, however I found 'Spycraft' to be rather dull and on the slow side. Looking forward to the final instalment.

Why on earth would they release a sequel to a story that hasn’t been released yet?
I enjoyed the second one, the wild Wild West one I have to admit didn’t grab me. I’ll have to listen to it again. Never a fan of tha Tara era, but I do love BF Avengers and am delighted they continue!

Finally caught up and listened to the set and I adored it. Whilst it took me a bit to get used to listening to Woodward, after several series of Howell and Poulet, by the end of the set I was sold on their partnership. As for my favourite stories....hmm, probably Spycraft. Brilliant, witty and surprising all-round. Then Spycraft, if not for the sheer audacity of doing a sequel to a non-existant story! But a brilliant set all-round and I can't wait to hear more (and hope that they involve Christopher Benjamin more for at least one of the stories!). Out of curiosity, and if you can't say I understand, but have you actually gone ahead and recorded Sets 2 and 3 yet? I know BF likes to record some sets far in advance, I'm just curious
