you need to strip the old tag and give it a new one...…...loads of titles did this to my iTunes some show up as 3 or 4 albums but there not all there or phantom tracks...….
only way I found to solve is to delete tag and start again not using iTunes to re-tag...….but to be honest though I don't use iTunes any longer its suffering from apples policy of if its not broke try and break it, if its simple make it complicated and if its visible hide it and spent way too many days (probably weeks if truth be told) of my life retagging n sorting just to please their rubbish interface and lack of interest in anything that isn't apple music.
I use a file explorer app on the iPhone these days and transfer direct to a audio book player app...….

other thing is you could go into the "get info" or what ever its called now and change number of disks to 1, and do that in the sort menu tab too......

I think I know what you’re referring to. My solution has been to just create a smart playlist for audiobooks. In the the playlist, everything looks normal.

I just tried messing around with this again. It looks like it was releated to the sort "chapter" tag. If I cleared them out, the tracks merged back together as one book Scratch that! It seems as though iTunes displays chapter titles for the tracks/chapters in my books, but when I go to "Audiobook Info" for the file, the chapter title is missing! If I then exit this screen, I end up with a chapter without a title. I am going to manually go through one of these and see if simply replacing the missing metadata fixes the problem. I noticed this because after I mass edited the files, the titles disappeared... Update: Perhaps this is what we need?Update: Okay, that script worked perfectly for files that didn't have missing titles. But some of my older stuff will need a solution since editing the metadata removes the title from the library. The script below adds a character to the end of a title, then removes the character. Doing this re-saves the metadata and fixes the title issue. Kinda hacky, but it works! tell application "iTunes" if selection is not {} then set mySelection to selection repeat with aTrack in mySelection set modified_name to name of aTrack & "+" set name of aTrack to modified_name set original_name to text 1 thru -2 of modified_name set name of aTrack to original_name end repeat end if end tell Now all I have to do is run the above code. (I called the script "Fix Missing Name") And then run the other script that adds the sort chapter information. That seems to solve it
