I wonder what other two stories they'll be revisiting. We've got a Second Doctor "present day" story and a Fourth Doctor pseudo-historical... Maybe a pure historical and a future story? The Myth Makers would be a cool choice, with River visiting Vicki in the moments after the story ends? As for a future story, Vengeance on Varos? I feel like that's a world that could be revisited easily - and obviously Sil has been back with BF before! I would presume all four stories are popular, well-known ones... that also aren't missing.

I'm quite thrilled that Henry Gordon Jago will be appearing in River Song 6 and have pre-ordered it accordingly. Also very exciting to daydream about any other surprise guests that might turn up, this could quickly get even more interesting.

It is a real thrill to have more Henry Gordon Jago on order! So with the last or fourth story in the set referencing a Fourth Doctor story I wonder if stories one, two and three will do the same!?

It's a lame excuse to call the portrayal of Asians in The Talons of Weng Chiang "a product of its time". Even in its time, people knew it was racist.
Just sayin'.

As a First Doctor story suggestion how about The Reign of Terror?
There are several stories where the Doctor’s wife could meet the Doctor’s granddaughter, but I am suggesting this for two reasons.
1 - I can see River having fun in that time period. A Scarlet woman. 2 - Big Finish could persuade Ronald Pickup to expand his character from that story.

So, what, The Caves of Androzani? Or just more sequels/prequels to Tomb of the Cybermen, Remembrance of the Daleks, Genesis of the Daleks, An Unearthly Child... I hope it's not just that. But I guess Talons and Web both have entire spin-off series based around them, so they're not exactly deep cuts. You're probably right. River will probably just hang out with the Counter-Measures team and, I don't know, Sutekh and the Voc robots or something. EDIT: I re-read the news post - "most famous Doctor Who stories of all time". So. Yeah. cwm's right.

I'm an unapologetic fan of both stories so by all means. Stick her in some boring Pertwee and then you'd lose my interest but River meeting Paul Darrow's Tekker, or Helen A? SIGN ME UP!

I wouldn't mind The Happiness Patrol, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected the last time I watched it. Besides, it would bring a whole new meaning to "Hello, Sweetie..."

I would like to believe differently, that there was a failure on the parts of the creators to understand the offensiveness of their choices, and if they'd known better they'd have made different choices - but of course, my beliefs don't matter compared to facts, and I recognize you may well be correct that in fact they did know, and chose not to care. Until I have evidence, i'm going to optimistically cling to my belief, but I don't deny the possibility i'm wrong. If I were shown evidence that the racism were conscious and deliberate, it would make it very difficult for me to appreciate the Baker era as a whole, I think... but maybe i'm getting very much off-topic

Today's announcement of an extra Counter Measures story has slightly shaken my view that River would meet the CM team in a Remembrance-linked story...

There is no boring Pertwee. (I say this through gritted teeth during ep 2 of 'The Monster of Peladon' but I'm a Pertwee fan and this Doctor is protected!)

Why? The "new" Counter Measures story is just the one that was intended to go in volume 2 but got bumped for the Intelligence story. The news article says it's the intention for the stories to recreate the TV stories they're connected to as faithfully as possible, and surely Remembrance is one of the stories BF are best-placed to recreate?

Well, what fabulous news, Sweeties! River in a prequel to the greatest 'Doctor Who' story of all time, meeting some of Robert Holmes's finest creations (and we'll be free to imagine the good Professor Litefoot is also hard at work, somewhere out there in London, unaware of the remarkable world he's about to be pulled into.)
I've recently been listening to a 'Behind the Scenes' CD in which several of BF's top writers talk about their enduring fondness for 'Talons' and I am so thrilled that BF are doing this and that Paul Morris is writing it (having written the excellent sequel to 'Talons' which opens J&L 13), I'm sure it will be era-perfect and I can't wait!
As for the other stories, do we guess that River will be having near-misses with One, Two and Three but meeting some of their Companions and friends? For Three, probably an earthbound story and it must be a classic - as an archaeologist, perhaps River was investigating the Devil's Hump before all hell broke loose in Devil's End?

It'd be great for a Remembrance-set story, but Class very recently did just that with In Remembrance, so I'm not too sure whether they'll want to repeat the same idea again so soon?

I was thinking that. Also, Napeoleon could then get his own spinoff box set line where he recounts meetings with various Doctors. More seriously, what about "Frontier in Space"? Lot of stuff going on there that could be brought to the fore, particularly if BF recast the Master as has been speculated.

Recast the Master? They currently have Geoffery Beavers and Derek Jacobi covering 1st and 2nd bases, they've got Michelle Gomez stealing third, and they've even got Eric Roberts warming up to take his swing. And while he hasn't been at bat for a couple innings, there's always Alex MacQueen ready to pinch-hit.
Not to mention James Dreyfus, who I'm having trouble fitting into my convoluted metaphor.
Point is, I'm having trouble seeing where they'd fit anyone else in!
Unless... the Delgado Master was actually the umpire all along... Oh that would be just like him, that jerk.

River's sets are already on my must-buy list. Having Jago in one is gloriously grammatical garnish.
As for Jago's native Victorian England, perhaps River will address the racism of the era (and the original episode) with a bit grinning mockery, such as telling that squad of Nazis she was on her way to a gay Gypsy bar mitzvah for the disabled.
Possible ather episodes she could be slipped into... Hmmm... River could have been part of Marco Polo's caravan, another leg of it far out of sight of the Doctor and company.

It sounds if she is going back to 8 episodes from the news piece so likely one from each classic Doctor, so here are my guesses for the unannounced stories and who I think should write them One: Most Likely: The Daleks or The Dalek's Master Plan due to the iconic nature of the episodes and the selling factors of Daleks. As to what about, I would love to see River become a member of the Thals during The Daleks and explore their side of the war. For the writer, I think Simon Guerrier would do this story justice Hoped For: I have a couple. The first is The Reign of Terror, in which River would be in a pure historical riding around as a woman in red and two would be The Time Meddler, in which River has to go back and stop the Rufus Hound Monk from going back and changing his first encounter with the Doctor. The shear absolute timey wiminess would be an absolute marvel and to have it be written by Johnathan Morris and called The Time Meddling Time Meddler would become one of the instant classics, just saying. Two: What it will be and what I want it to be: It'll be a Great Intelligence story due to the fact we have seen it confirmed through tidbits on cv and other obscure news sources. For which one, I would like it to be The Web of Fear as that's the serial I prefer and I think that Roy Gill could make a proper horror story out of it Three: Most Likely: Frontier in Space, only because I would love to see Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky write a political thriller for River and this is probably where I would set it, and it then being able to utilize Jo and Katy Manning in probably one of the best pairings that no one has ever mentioned. Hoped For: As I said Frontier in Space would be a great one to do, but I would love to see Colony in Space as well. Also I think both stories would have enough scope to not have to include a recast for the Delgado Master. For both, I love the way Guy Adams has written for both Jo and River so I think he would be an ideal candidate. Five: Most Likely and Hoped For: Earthshock, with River trying but ultimately failing to save Adric after seeing how heartbroken 5 was when he didn't save him after the events of Series 3. dorney has the ability to write the stories with emotional punches so I nominate him. Six: Most Likely: Vengeance on Varos where River is a contest in the Hunger Games type show and has to run through an emotional gauntlet, ultimately having to kill allies to survive. James Goss or Scott Handcock due to their experience with Torchwood and The War Master, would pull of an excellent and deliciously dark take. Hoped for: The only other story I want is Timelash, because I secretly love it and just want to see more of the setting and characters. As for the writer, Nev Fountain writing it would be a hilarious eppy. But otherwise I'm more than pleased to have Vengeance on Varos. Seven: Most Likely: Instead of Remembrance, I think the Curse of Fenric would be the top pick, as Big Finish have not beaten that story to death yet like they have with Remembrance and Counter Measures(Sorry Counter-Measure fans, I just think they have been overused) and it has a lot of scope in which you could explore. The best writer for this one would Marc Plaat i think Hoped For: Ghost Light, with River going in and it being a haunted house story written by Joseph Lidster. Nuff' said Eight: Most Likely: The TV Movie, but I can't really think of what River could do for that story but I trust Matt Fitton would figure it out Hoped For: I actually want something a bit different and have River and The Eleven face off in a madhouse of wits as Alex Kingston and Mark Bonnar would be the greatest thing ever. I want to see Mac Rogers or Tim Foley for this one, but I have absolutely no idea why they were the two to come to mind. Geez that was a long thing to type...
