www.bigfinish.com/news/v/carnival-time-for-river-songmore details
More details on the sixth series of The Diary of River Song can be revealed today. The final episode of four in the sixth series is a true celebration of Doctor Who. One could say it’s a carnival... a carnival… of monsters!
Carnival good! But (for me) crossing paths with a recast Doctor not-so-good... Not sure if it's enough to put me off, I do enjoy these River sets. I don’t recall there being any mention of River actually encountering any of the Doctors in this series. However I am surprised that she isn’t meeting and interacting with some of the companions.

Great news! 'Carnival of Monsters' is excellent - 'Doctor Who' meets Inter Minorian 'Yes, Minister' with Plectrum, Kalik and Orum scheming away
It's probably Robert Holmes' cleverest script (which is saying a lot) and watching it spoiler-free the first time round (crumbs, 1972...) is something I never forgot - and not just for the Drashigs! One reveal after another until finally we tie together all the 'worlds' and the circuits of the mysterious machine and the real world outside; great stuff and lots of action, explosions and big teeth too.
I do hope River meets the Third Doctor and Jo.
And in the final, First Doctor story, might it be David Bradley?? The fact that BF are holding back the news of that story until last makes me wonder.

I don’t recall there being any mention of River actually encountering any of the Doctors in this series. No direct mention, however there's a line in the news story which asks: If there isn't some reverse Bettridge's Law that applies to questions in marketing, there should be.

Do we know for sure it is 1st Dr?

Do we know for sure it is 1st Dr? No I suppose not, but with 2, 4 and 3 for the first three stories it would seem logical.
Personally I'd hope for a William Russell / Carole Ann Ford story (and there was that picture tweeted recently) but as River is New-Who I wondered which way they might go with the First Doctor, if he appears. Either way, it is the set finale so we should expect something extra-special.

I don't disagree at all, and I hope it will be a 1st Dr story, but we are talking here as if it's something we know for 100% definite which I don't think we do.
Was thinking about the 1st dr stories they could do, the best idea is masterdoctor's suggestion of Rufus Hound trying to alter the events of the Time Meddler.
Trying to think of stories where some of the guest cast are still alive. Ones I thought of were Marco Polo with Mark Eden and Derren Nesbitt, something set in The Chase with Peter Purves as Morton Dill, Julian Glover and Jean marsh for the crusade would be just too good to be true, Jon Culshaw could maybe do Bret Vyon ... those were the ones that came to my mind

Wow. Not one of them looks pleased to be there.
I am interested, though.

Too much recasting for me - that tips the balance! I'm still looking forward to vol 5, and I've had a great run with River - and while I'm looking at the positives, I needed to free up some cash so I can follow the War Master on his further adventures...

With all these announcements...are we in danger of River running out of people to bump into in future sets?
Coming 2020...River meets Danny Pink & the kids from Class

Hmm, a bold decision putting the three recast companions in there. I’d have preferred the Early Adventures route of William Russell and Carole Ann Ford with Jemma Powell. I’m not a massive fan of the three companion recasts in the First Doctor Adventures sets, they’re the weak link for me. It also stands out a bit more when we’ve got two actual surviving cast members in this series of River Song.
I’ve got my pre-order in anyway, and I’ll buy anything with River in, so I’ll just wait and listen to the story.

Looking forward to this but I for one will be disappointed and feel I was led up the garden path if Three does not appear in peepshow.

Now if I hadn’t enjoyed all of the Rivers and gave the Alternate First Doctor Team a chance and really enjoyed them i would be moaning why not the original Susan and Ian etc But I wont i can live with this as i love both Box sets.I would love her to me Jamie Ben and polly with Frazers 2nd Doctor too

I’ll be honest, this whole ‘River meets [x]!’ thing doesn’t really excite me all that much. I didn’t buy Series 3 because of her meeting the fifth Doctor or Series 4 because of her meeting the Fourth Doctor. I bought them because they sounded like good stories. Series 6 just seems a bit gimmicky so far.
I might be won over by reviews, and probably will given the general quality of Big Finish.

Yes i felt the same but once i got into the stories i felt they were of a very very high calibre. The First Doctor adventures of the alternative team i just thought give it a shot and am a confirmed fan of them and can also enjoy the Peter Purves,Susan jean Marsh Maureen Obrien adventures equally.

I have no way of knowing, but I always get the impression that River Song is a popular range, so I can understandthat Big Finish would like to have crossovers to their other ranges.
River is visiting UNIT, which will get me to pre-order when I wouldn’t without her.
So this looks to be an opportunity for listeners to hear the re-cast Doctors and some companions.
Personally I would have rather they went with just the original Susan, but I can understand the marketing especially if they have a good story to tell with the characters.

Oh dear. Looks like BF can't resist getting River to meet every single Doctor & play a part in classic adventures. Too much like fanfic for my liking. A shame as Diary of River Song was great when it started. At least I will be saving money.

Except fan fiction is rarely as well written, produced and performed as when Big Finish does it. There is a certainty novelty in listening to River working her way up and down The Doctor’s timeline.
