I admit I only have a couple of the Vienna releases and I only bought them because Chase Masterson was such a sweet and nice person on last years convention.
She had never before appeared on my radar, but this got me curious in her audios. I am quite surprised that Vienna Retribution was not a bigger success for people on this forum, and hardly anybody talked about it or wrote in the accompaning thread.
I thought it was a fantastic action romp, even if you (like me) did not know the previous releases. It is very well done.
But maybe it is not deep or philosophical or adult enough for some people on here? Who knows.
It is 3 hours long and I listened to it in one go, I enjoyed it that much.
And the 11th Doctor chronicles- they are as good as everyone says. You do not even need to be a fan of the 11th Doctor.
I just ordered the three series and memory box-nothing to lose. Am always willing to expand my range and help feed a hungry actress 😂 Well, she is appears to be a very nice person, so at least the money won't go to an unsavioury character. But I am sure you will enjoy it, as long as you do not expect any philosophical epiphanies... Just get out the popcorn and lean back.

Actually it is very well written and pretty action packed but lets be honest its BF and they somehow deliver

The MR UNIT trilogy has definitely surprised me. I went in on a bit of a whim really but The Helliax Rift and Hour of the Cybermen were really strong stories.
The Class sets really surprised me with how much I enjoyed them. I raced through both sets in a few days. I had always defended Class but Big Finish really did well with the characters.
Similar vein-Torchwood. It’s because of the strength of Big Finish stuff I bought on sale in the spring I actually watched the original series. Subsequently bought Believe and that was great. Was not expecting to join enjoy Torchwood nearly as much as I have.
Biggest surprise of the year-how much I’ve bought! £400’s worth on last check a few weeks ago. Absolutely worth it.

Adding my voice to those who mention ATA Girl. Started the Boxset without expectations and finished it emotionally invested in the characters (Daphne's tale still needs to be told..and Widdley! Nooo!! 😢😢)
Anyway..biggest surprise of the year for me? Benny. Arrived late to the range, again without expectation and ended completely hooked and devouring what I could. So much so that I'm now saving up for the four New Adventures and quietly hoping Big Finish will one day release the first eleven series on download. 😊

The biggest surprise for me this year? I just finished it, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was Lady Christina!!!
My God, I'm even surprising myself!
I had no desire to hear this, I couldn't understand why this was even a thing. Someone sent it to me, and I loved it so much I went back and bought it for myself AT FULL PRICE! It's just so much fun! They are able to do the type of stories that they rarely do in Doctor Who. I even enjoyed listening to the Slytheen! I really hope we get more of these.

Star Cops for me, loved it.
Very refreshing to have a space series with no aliens or time travel, just humans with all their limitations and possibilities. I'm very much looking forward to listening to Series 2 on Christmas day when 'Goldfinger' has finished, all the fuss has died down and I'm half cooked on Bradfield Belgium Blue beer.

Narration (Short Trips / Companion Chronicles / Early Adventures). Previously I only ever listened to full-cast audios, never seeing the appeal of narrated stories and viewing them as inferior and second-rate. After listening to a subscriber freebie Short Trip just to fill in some time earlier this year, I admit that I was completely wrong and I am a convert to BF's narrated ranges. The Short Trips range is now my must-buy. I select CC releases with my favourite characters / actors, and have not been disappointed in any of my choices so far. The Early Adventures have their share of narration, and are worth buying simply for Elliot Chapman’s performance as Ben. As many of the narrated audios are cheaper than other ranges, my wallet is much happier! (Apologies for rambling!)

The Short Trips range is now my must-buy. For overall consistency, it is the best Big Finish range at the moment.
I was always a 'full-cast drama' man first and foremost out of the various Big Finish ranges but the Short Trips range is now the Big Finish release each month that I'm more interested in hearing. (The fact I can usually get the whole story done on the way in to work and again on the way home probably helps too!)

Jenny wound up being my biggest surprise. I was expecting to like it, but I really took to the characters and was delighted by just how much *fun* it was.
I actually listened to it concurrently with the War Master vol 1, which was quite the roller coaster. In retrospect, having Jenny balance out the very dark stories in War Master was a great way to enjoy both sets.
War Master would be my runner up surprise, too. I wasn't prepared for how dark the set would get with the third episode. The Master was just so evil!

The Seventh Doctor VNAs
I do have some of the novel adaptations in my backlog, but this was my first time with Roz and Chris and the style of that era which kept the flame alive in print (but which I had never visited in any form.) What a terrific discovery to make - I enjoyed the whole set very much, met two great Companions and the final two stories especially were outstanding (I must move the NAs up my listening list.)
So I guess 2018 was the year I lost my New Adventures Virginity and it was great!
