While I'm not quite ready to commit to four boxsets in a single go, Heritage is now sitting alongside Volume 1 of Missy on my "ones to keep an eye on" list. Considering I wasn't all that keen on the writing for the Master's female incarnation nor the Paternosters when they appeared on the TV show it's bit ironic that I'm even looking for further details, but Big Finish do have a real knack for spinning gold from straw (a certain Professor Song springs instantly to my mind..). As for Jago..*Wishful thinking warning*.. in another thread I expressed a hope that if Vastra, Jenny and Strax went on to their own boxset that they might start to walk alongside the trail blazed by the professor and the theatre impresario. We now know they are getting four boxsets so I've changed my mind on that. Regardless of if I am along for the ride I hope they find their own way rather than imitating. Whereas before the idea of an episode featuring Jago or Ellie or Quick appealed enormously, now I'm drawn to the idea of a brief cameo appearance by Christopher Benjamin somewhere along the line to the pass the torch on. I'm even OK with the notion of that not happening at all, but rather lines peppered into the scripts to suggest Henry and George are still out there, still investigating the infernal and still having a ball doing so. But until such time that Big Finish lavish us with more detail and end my speculating on what might be, the 'pay now' button will have to remain unclicked.. I think Big Finish should let them develop on their own first and then give us appearances by other characters later, once the stage has been set, much like how they waited a couple seasons before bringing in Leela or the Doctor to Jago and Litefoot. I still wish they'd done the same with River rather than teaming her up with so many Doctors right off the bat.

I agree J.A. Prentice, we need to learn who these three characters are and how they operate when the Doctor is not around. I guess we have a sense of that from 'The Crimson Horror' and in Vastra's consulting room setup as the Great Detective, but as a trio they've often been played for laughs - especially Strax, and I think that was getting old fast.

The set up is all there on screen, I think. Especially in The Crimson Horror, Deep Breath and the minisodes. The audios just need to showcase more of this. The Paternoster have their humourous moments, particularly Strax, mainly when involved with the Doctor. So without the Doctor’s presence in these sets, I think we’ll get more focus on them as characters and as a team.
As for Jago & Litefoot elements, I’d quite happily have none of them cross over, really. Or at least not until the Heritage series has wrapped up. It might be a little controversial, though I like Jago & Litefoot and their world perfectly well, but it’s not as if they’ve been short changed on additional content. And this is coming from someone who’s not even bothered with their 13 boxsets, just their other Doctor Who Adventures!

I am hoping that The Paternoster Gang might venture a bit more outside of London.
To other parts of the British Isles like with The Crimson Horror as well as over to the continent and perhaps further afield within the British Empire.
It would also help separate them from the shadow of Jago & Litefoot, because if they are in London I would like to hear references to those illustrious gentlemen investigators.

If these sets are placed after 'J&L&Strax: The Haunting' then it would be odd if the the illustrious Infernal Investigators didn't get a mention. Unless Strax is embarassed by his mistaking them for Vastra and Jenny and wants to forget it? (If Sontarans get embarrassed - which I somehow find hard to imagine!)
But London is (even in 1890) a big place and there's certainly room for two sets of investigators of the unusual to operate plausibly without treading on each other's toes. The Paternoster Gang have their Holmesian parallel to follow and as such I hope they stay close to home for the most part - for me Mr. Holmes tends to lose some of his magic the further he gets from the fogs of Baker Street. The atmosphere of Victorian England is practically a character in its own right and I think that's true for the Paternosters too.

Hmm.... my absolute favorite Holmes story always has been The Hound of the Baskervilles... it is just so atmospheric, and that while (because?) it is placed outside London.

It does have great supernatural atmosphere to start with but it's a fantasy version of Dartmoor and the list of suspects is about one person long...
{Spoiler} "Mr Stapleton!!" "Yes, and I'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky detectives..." (I hope a 'Scooby-Doo' joke travels well internationally!) And Holmes has to be 'absent' for half the novel partly so we can enjoy Watson getting deeper into the mire of clues and partly because if he was there, he could clear things up in about two pages! I enjoy the story, but for me the strength of Holmes lies in the short stories which I love, not the novels. (Three of which go off on 'flashback' tangents for 1/2-1/3 of their length, suggesting to me that even the great man himself had issues with the format and needed some filler. )

Yes, I had that issue with the other Holmes novels, too. The study in scarlet might be the worst offender.
But I loved the Hound of the Baskervilles from the very beginning since I read my first version, the German youth version, at the age of 10. I love the atmosphere and setting.

I was listening to the extras on Jago & Litefoot series 2 where the composer was talking about their theme tune and I wondered what a The Paternoster Gang’s theme will be like. Currently all I know is...
Big Finish do incredibly good theme tunes!

It should include the krumhorn (sp?)! LOL! Yes, for full authenticity that's 'the Silurian note' you're thinking of! (crumhorn)
When Twitch did their Classic marathon this summer, a whole load of 'kazoo' comments were spawned. But no kazoo! It was the 'crumhorn' at play. (I love the unusual scores of some of the Pertwee stories and the Silurians and Sea Devils really stand out - ancient and modern!)

Was this originally listed as a slipcover box set? I thought it was, but I've checked and it's listed as a jewel case...

I've already pre-ordered the bundle of them. I love the Paternoster Gang. I have been looking forward to them coming to audio for a long time. The full set was ordered soon after the announcement. I wonder if we will ever find out why it took so long. When an RTD creation appears on audio Big Finish will often get feedback and comments from Russell, so I was surprised that there was nothing from Steven Moffat. I can only assume her doesn’t have the same working relationship with Big Finish, but it would have been nice. The Paternoster Gang have a big void to fill, left by Jago and Litefoot - Victorian London, two boxsets a year, all seems to fit the bill as I loved the characters on TV.

I believe upon release it will be the only scifi show with a Lesbian character as the lead. Even seen as 3 coleads We have a Lesbian couple and Strax is basically asexual.
Bf has more work to do on bts staff but I feel represented in their Releases as a whole and I can't say that about anything else really.
