Frankly, it would be shocking if Helen and/or Liv got a happy ending given that all of eight’s BF companions have died (or he thinks thry’ve Died)

Finished up the set on my commute home. Spoilers for 3.4 The Odds Against During the main body of the episode I was finding myself not quite as enthralled with Part 4 as I'd been with the first three...but then that first twist--that I should have seen coming a MILE off but didn't--caught me completely off-guard, and then the second twist was even more of a surprise (and an interesting setup for Ravenous 4). So, you know, great job I also think it's really cool how both 3.2 and 3.4 seeded the Ravenous storyline back into the Doom Coalition timeframe. The two series were always obviously connected, but to stitch them together like this tickled me just right. In all, a fantastic set of stories that I'm thrilled to have been able to experience. I just wish it wasn't such a long wait till the next set! Some thoughts for the future.... Who is "Margaret"? The Nine was collecting companions of the Doctor, so presumably that's what she'll turn out to be in some capacity....but note that the companions he'd captured were from all of the Doctor's incarnations, not just his eighth. So "Margaret" could really turn up anywhere, not necessarily just in Ravenous 4 or beyond.
And what's next after Ravenous? Is all the focus on Ravenous/Time War right now, or are plans being laid out for the next group of box sets? {Companion Piece Spoiler} Well, and this is just a theory. A couple years back, Nerys Hughes was interviewed on a Big Finish podcast where she was recording some 'top secret' stuff with Tom Baker, and Briggs mentioned it wouldn't be out for a long, long time. Considering that, and also considering that the companion montage was in chronological order for the Doctor (Jamie, Jo, Leela, Romana, Adric), to me I suspect Margaret is another companion that slots in-between Leela and Romana (and after Anne). Now whether or not that's the Fourth Doctor Adventures or something else entirely (I'd love to see Philip Hinchcliffe Presents with a new companion) remains to be seen. But that's my speculation.
As for the future with 8, David Richardson mentioned in the Ravenous 4 announcement that they were already working on plans for the next chapter in 8's life. So who knows. I'm more worried for Helen and Liv's fate. On the one hand, Helen and Liv have been around for a while (Liv especially so) so I could see it time for a new, fresh start for Eight. On the other hand I adore Liv and Helen so much that I don't want them to go! totally enjoyed and captivated by epsiode one and just about to start two . Glad that it continues to be excellent as the last set of stories it’s the ALIENS to the Alien. The team are so good together and I have a real fondness for Heffernan after his Doom Coalition episode...so here’s goes with part two

Deeptime Frontier is very much like Seizure in structure and story beats, except it’s done much better. The Ravenous feel a little more threatening and Paul McGann sells the Doctor’s fear well.

Only made it through "Deeptime Frontier" last night. It was great and a step up from "Seizure"- at least the Ravenous have some mystery added to them and they are not pure growling/ slobbering monsters. This also showed me again why I love Liv so much- her frank no-nonsense attitude is right after my heart. My favorite quite has to be "So are you evil?" Really looking forward to tonight when I can dive in again- work cannot be over fast enough!

Companion Piece is expertly weaved together. It’s a continuity fest, yet it doesn’t feel like one. Everything is included with good reason. The real stars of the show for me were Alex Kingston (as always) and John Heffernan. I think I prefer The Nine & The Twelve to The Eleven. I think that’s due to them having more distinct personalities as their characters. I have a love hate relationship with Charley; she grates when I listen to her continued adventures, but I really like her in special appearances, such as The Light at the End, The Last Adventure and now this. I know the thread title warns of spoilers, but I’ll pop these thoughts into a tag anyway: The Nine putting Charley in different cells was really funny, a nice pastiche of the obsessive Doctor Who fan.
Bliss is still rather generic, but I can forgive it in this story, due to her seemingly not being on the same timeline as the Bliss we get in the Time War sets. For me, it serves as another hint towards her being some inevitable superweapon, though.
I really liked that The Nine and River come straight from where we last saw them in Doom Coalition.
Katarina came as a surprise. I wonder if she’ll be paired with River in a set at some point?
Margaret is an interesting one. The cameos seem to be in chronological order as well as story order, and they’re in the cast list as such, so she seems to be an original companion for the Fourth Doctor. Nerys Hughes is exactly the sort of person Tom Baker adores too! I know there’s Hannah in Shellshock too, so it’ll be interesting to find out if they link or not.

Can we just imagine Four getting an Evelyn type companion? It would be gold.

Some scattered thoughts beyond my original squeeing.... 3.2 Companion Piece {Spoiler} So for The Nine and prisoner-River, this slots in right after The Crucible of Souls during Doom Coalition.
For Romana, she is Lady President, so it could fit in pretty well anywhere from about the Sixie era all the way through to the Time War.
For Charley, this needs to be somewhere between The Next Life and Absolution.
For Bliss, this is sometime prior to her proper debut in Eighth Doctor: Time War 1, and definitely prior to the outbreak of the Time War.
I burst out laughing at the Frobisher bit, both at the mention AT ALL, and at the "he could be considered legitimate!" wink to fandom.
I was happy, sad, and nostalgic all at once that C'Rizz got a name-drop.
Boy, was it ever nice to get an India Fisher appearance. After a while, Charley grated on me during her run with Eight, but it was really, really lovely to hear her back here. In addition... {Spoiler} Jamie's appearance takes place after The War Games, because he thinks he only met the Doctor once, and Nine remarks about how that's not quite correct.
For Jo, it's any point during her time with the Doctor, and for Leela, it could be any point, since I don't think there's anything to pin it down to a specific point in her life?
For Adric, it's about halfway through his travels, so sometime while he's travelling with Five?

Out of curiosity, is it ever specified that the Doctor hasn't met any incarnations of The Collective outside of 8, 9, 11 and 12? I'm more just wondering if we can expect appearances from 1-7/10 (well, maybe not The One as that's just a bloke with no voices in his head!). It'd be an interesting villain to just seed with other Doctors here and there.

One episode in and okay, this establishes the Ravenous as viable threat.

OMG. Just finished Companion Piece. This was amazing. Mr. Dorney did not promise too much. I think we have a new classic. It just does everything right and is such a clever idea. Right down to all the cameos. Well done!

I’m not sure what to think of LEGEND. It didn’t really click with me, but I didn’t really feel that there’s much to latch on to.
The Brothers Grimm premise is sound, as is the LEGEND stuff, but it doesn’t feel like enough is made of either and they don’t mesh together. I liked Helen’s geeking out over the Brothers Grimm, but again, nothing is really made of it. The Doctor has a brief geeking out moment and then Liv gives him a scathing remark; I didn’t like that.
The Eleven joining the TARDIS team should be great, but Liv & Helen tut it off and that’s the end of it. The Doctor and the Eleven should have some great sparky dialogue with each other, as they’re paired in the story, but they don't. In fact, the Eleven doesn’t feel like he has much of a presence in the story, which is surprising given his character!
The ending is terribly rushed and then the next thing we know, the team are off.
I sound as scathing as Liv’s remark to the Doctor, but I don’t intend to be. I can’t say I disliked the story, but I can’t say I particularly liked it either. There’s not really anything of substance to any of it to give me strong feelings either way; the definition of meh?

As great as Ravenous 2 was, I think this was just as good, and even better on account of Companion Piece. I was so excited to hear the fabulous cast all together that I had to listen again just to get the story, which was excellent. The last two stories held up remarkably well despite things trying to inevitably seem like they go downhill from Companion Piece, just because it really was the high point for me, but I think I'm just as happy that it wasn't used for the finale. I think Ravenous 3 really is the set I was hoping it would be. If anything whatsoever seemed amiss to me, it might have been Liv being taken to task a bit for some of her comments after her character seems so well established, but that barely seems significant - really a very strong and well rounded set. Nice work, everyone!

Done Deeptime Frontier and Companion PieceFrontier gives the Ravenous some more to work with as an ongoing threat. As for Companion Piece, well it was brilliant. {Spoiler} Dorney was clearly having a ball with this script. The cameo scene was brilliant alone, plus the glorious one liners (of course the penguin counts!) and the companions working perfectly together was lovely. Bliss not knowing the Doctor yet was a curious choice, I wonder if the timeline alteration revealed here will have any implications for the actual Time War sets.
Also the ‘ghost of Lucie Miller’-too soon 😭
So is Katarina properly alive again, and River now has a TARDIS I guess?
