I am a big animal lover and I am terribly missing my animals which I had to leave when I moved countries. I previously had a black tom cat called Ponui (meaning "the long night" in Te reo Maori), three parrots and two axolotl. I found new good homes for them with friends, but still miss them a lot.
To alleviate my "fur and feather withdrawal" a bit, I thought why not share something about our pets? Since we already have a thread about our other hobbies.
So what are the critters you keep at home? Don't worry, I even like spiders.
I am going to make a start. Right now, I only have one animal. It is a grumpy old Siamese fighting fish (nearly 2 years), but still building his bubble nests and trying to scare me off with fierce threat displays. I love how even an animal as small as this can have so much character. Meet old man Rassilon.

I don't believe in having pets, but to each their own, whatever makes you happy.

No pets here. My spouse is allergic to anything with fur or feathers. And we haven't really gone in for the kind without fur or feathers, either, to be honest.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

One dog and one cat.
There was a second dog, but we put him down almost a month ago. Difficult day, that was.
Second one won't be around much longer, she's been palliative for the last three months.
Having pets is great, but does it ever suck at the end.

Three lovely cats. Two tortoiseshell and one pygmy panther; a mother and her two children. I found her in a feral state while she was pregnant with her first clowder of kittens and she adopted me.

It is very very sad. On the other hand, they give you so much during their life and I just cannot be without animals.

I might like a sheep or a cow as a pet but only for their future useage 🤪

I might like a sheep or a cow as a pet but only for their future useage 🤪 The problem with that is that from what I know about you right now, you might get quite attached to it (especially if you name it) and it will be very hard to "use" in the future. I know how it is, I lived on a farm. I cried bitter tears when my favorite rabbits ended up in the pot, and I LOVE eating rabbits.
You need to keep yourself detached, and I myself would have a real problem doing that. But I agree, if you love animals and care for them and give them a good life- and then use them for food, they will have a much better life than in any factory farm and it is actually a good thing. I am just not very good in killing things, that's all.

We have two tuxedo cats, Lucy Senior and Lucy Junior.
Lucy Senior came to us about five years ago this past summer. We were in the back yard when we heard a bang at the shed. I went to investigate and found this emaciated kitten. We had concerns about the local shelters (they're not no-kill and she's this goofy-looking thing with crossed eyes so we didn't like her odds for finding a home), so we fed her and gave her a place to stay on the back porch.
She started getting heavier, but as my daughter would later say, "It wasn't all from the food." A day or two before she would give birth, she bounded behind my daughter and I got a good look and thought, "That cat is pregnant."
She sure was. As my wife would later observe, chasing away the neighborhood tomcats with a broom was not the best method of contraception we could have employed. We had them all fixed and found homes for five of the six kittens and kept Lucy Senior and Lucy Junior at home.
We've had some ups and downs. Most recently she got away from us at the church's blessing of the animals and ran off into an unfamiliar town twenty miles from home. I didn't think she was coming back, but the community response was amazing. The posts were shared hundreds of times on the relevant Facebook groups, people we hadn't seen in years were out there looking for on the streets. This is the kind of thing I'm going to remember when I need to restore my faith in humanity.
She was already due for a vet appointment anyway, so we moved that up a few weeks and I'm happy to announce that she's no worse for wear after her little adventure.

I am glad you got your cat back! Yeah, it always warms my heart to read things like that and that there are still compassionate people out there.
