On the edge of a Norwegian fjord, in the present day, The Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz discover a boarded-up cottage and a girl named Hanne in need of their help. What has happened here? What monster lurks in the woods around the cottage – and beyond?

We don't know much about any of the stories this series, but from the small synopsis available, this sounds like it might be a cracker.

I know it's not the biggest of similarities either, but wasn't there something about Big Finish not doing similar things to the TV show at "approximately" the same time? I'm getting similar vibes from The Hunting Ground, so I'm wondering how both of these got commissioned?

I have some very vague memories of either a Sontaran or Davros story running into a bit of strife because something was being done in parallel by the television series. Maybe someone can verify that? I think the problem there was (or would have been) the shared use of intellectual properties. If both stories featured, say, Poland, there likely wouldn't be a problem. But if both stories used a Rutan, then there would potentially be concerns about how that property was portrayed.

From the TV episode I get more of an X-files vibe while from the 6th Doctor story, it sounds more like Predator... I could be wrong of course.

Oh, we both could be. To me, the trailer for The Killing Ground put me in the mind of a Nordic crime drama with sci-fi elements. Something like Ørnen ( The Eagle in English); blood on the snow and bitter memories, that sort of thing. In contrast, the synopsis for It Takes You Away conjures up something more like The X-Files, as you said, or Darkwood. Although... I don't think it'll be anywhere near as grim as that game. Between it and Observer, the art style really lingers on in the memory. Nordic horror, there's something about it that just makes it so distinctive.

The synopsis and DWM preview of this sound brilliant. I do get a little X-Files vibe too! It sounds very different to what’s come before. In fact, the final four episodes all sound very distinctive, whereas the first six are all unique, yet feel very much like they’re feeding into one another.

Ah, that could very well explain my confusion If it was a monster issue as opposed to purely a story/location similarity, that's always a completely different kettle of fish...
