A weird but sweet story that I would happily watch week after week. Yup, 100% won back after 'The Tsuranga Conundrum'! ['Shame it's the finale next week though...]

My favourite non-historical of the season by an astonishing country mile. A touching, densely-packed tale about grief and a sense of belonging.
The antezone is a brilliant idea in-universe and I think one of the strongest realised alien dimensions of the show's decade-long history. The whole place had that feeling of the space between the wooden walls in a house. Filled with cobwebs, moths and things that have always been there. The alien intelligence reminded me quite a bit of the entity from Tarkovsky's Solaris, something that introduced figures of the dead to understand the aliens who had come into its sphere. Lots of nice little touches all over the place too. Graham standing by the lakeside echoing one of the first shots in Solaris, the Doctor writing on the wall for Ryan's benefit, mirroring the footage set within the intelligent universe (intelliverse?), the beast without being subverted as a creation of her father and so on. It feels whole and a sense that we're coming to the end of this season.
I really, really love it. More from writer Ed Hime and director Jamie Childs, please.

Tense, bold, atmospheric & emotional, only Doctor Who could do a story like this, i actually thought about my nan during this episode & not sure i could let her go if I'd been in that predicament.
At the heart of the episode was about grief & can we love someone enough to let me go, Bradley Walsh was utterly fantastic & now he's been called grandad I'm worried next week Graham will die (don't you dare Chibnall).
Not quite sure about a talking frog I'd had Jake McGann cameo as Alex the Doctor's great grandson which would've linked seeing the Doctor's family & a character who has never been seen on Tv to Big Finish.
Gone into this series not knowing anything about the episodes, the guest stars & expected to loathe it but have come away with my faith utterly restored in the show that has got me excited & looking forward about watching it again.
4/5.

I'm worried next week Graham will die (don't you dare Chibnall). I don't see how that can be since Graham is in the New Year's Day Special. But still...

Don't think it would be in keeping with the style of the show. It seems to me to be about dealing with grief, at least for Graham & Ryan. To kill off Graham would push Ryan back to square one. He's lost his parents, his nan & now Graham. I do think that sadly Graham's arc will see him leaving the show. Once he's learnt to live with grief he won't need the Doctor anymore? But I hope he sticks around for a while. He's been the surprise star of the season for me.

Tim. I hope Graham lives as Bradley Walsh has been utterly amazing & delivered some very subtle but emotional moments that had me tearing up. Loving this Tardis crew feels like a family.

The space between the walls..why the heck didn't I see that at the time? Well spotted Wolfie! 😊

Totally agree. Last night I was almost shouting at the telly, "call him grandad Ryan!" & when he did I had something in my eye.

www.doctorwhonews.net/2018/12/it-takes-you-away-overnight-viewing.html5.07m overnight. Lower than even I expected (I was think maybe 5.4/5.5), but as I had said, the story might've been sold as too weird and dark for the casuals (a lot of similar odd NuWho stories like Heaven Sent and Flatline didn't do tops either). The overalls will push it up, but we'd need at least close to Rosa's 1.98 to cross the 7 line. I think It Takes You Away will end up in the mid 6s. Good, but will likely be the lowpoint.

So potently the 2nd best EP of the run (IMO) is going to have the lowest ratings because it was decided to under promote it this week to keep it interesting. They just can't win the PR War this Series can they?

I’m away on holiday at the moment, but managed to catch up with the episode just now. Fantastic episode - wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this going by the initial trailer, but ended up really loving it. Odd, emotional, thrilling. All round good Who.

Wow. Just wow. This is what I had waited for all series long. Now officially my favorite episode of the series. It looked amazing, the guest characters were great, the setting and the atmosphere were fantastic and it became first more and more creepy before becoming totally surreal and bonkers. I absolutely LOVED it.

Apparently this monster was deleted from the episode? Wow, this ant-eater alien would have been great! I hope they get to use him at a later date!
And after we had an Androgum (et al.?) in this episode, could be expect them coming back, too? They would be amazing if done straight and not for laughs.

It worries me a little that there is a constant drop of viewers as the series has gone along. This week's overnight rated about half a million less than last week. It would be a shame if the finale didn't didn't rise a little. I can see it dipping into the 4 millions, but I hope I'm wrong.
