Another image from the episode! It certainly does look like this threat will stretch centuries back into Earth’s history...! Woohoo- looks like Doctor Who meets Kathy Reichs (Bones). I like.
Maybe solving an ancient murder mystery?

How about NOT posting pics when there isn't a spoiler tag on the thread? Yeah. Cheers.
And the original poster DID apply a spoiler so no blame there.

Interesting quote from the Mirror:
{Spoiler} The New Year's Day Special 'will be Doctor Who’s only outing in 2019, with Chibnall’s delayed second series now likely to air early 2020.'
I thought this rumour had been debunked?

Unfortunately not again Rumour but:
Because BBC insisted on the Festive Special, Chibnall's insisted on a delay between Episode batches

Get a grip Chibnall, Davies & Moffat had no issues with yearly series with more episodes per season.

Get a grip Chibnall, Davies & Moffat had no issues with yearly series with more episodes per season. No, they both had absolutely massive issues with them. That they did manage it - especially RTD doing so with the same broadcast pattern for 4 years straight - is all the more remarkable but one read of The Writer's Tale will tell you it nearly broke him physically and mentally, while damaging relationships and friendships.

Maybe. But surely Chibbers knew what he was getting into? He has said that he feels Dr Who needs to compete with the likes of Netflix. You can't really compete if you don't have one season per year. Also RTD & Moffat had longer seasons as well as an Xmas special. Chibbers does not have that issue as even with the special it's still 2 episodes less than previous New Who. That is of course if there's any truth to the rumours.

Get a grip Chibnall, Davies & Moffat had no issues with yearly series with more episodes per season. They certainly did. RTD’s experiences are documented heavily in The Writer’s Tale and Moffat's been very honest with the stresses he experienced, especially around Series 7. Maybe Chibnall wanted to hold off a bit to garner reactions to Series 11? If a big part of his pitch was taking risks, it seems sensible he’d want to see which ones paid off. I don’t know whether that would fit with whatever timeline for production we currently know.

If he feels there are tweaks needed to his version of the show, I would prefer him to take the time to attend to that rather than to break his neck getting everything sorted for next year. Also, I got the feeling the idea of the writer's room was in some way to ease the pressure on the show-runner, which makes a great deal of sense. Although I would love a series next year (and to be honest, I think we'll get a few episodes at least), I'd prefer quality over quantity.

True. But it don't have to be like that. A season per year of a fixed number of episodes isn't too much to ask is it?

True. But it don't have to be like that. A season per year of a fixed number of episodes isn't too much to ask is it? Well, to be realistic, NuWho has been all over the place from the start for when it did show during the year, and it had gap years, and so on, so I assume it is not as easy.

So might we have our first returning baddie in the New Year's Special? Is that a rumour or not? I have read conflicting information on that one.
