So a bunch of stuff was on instagram that, of course, got taken down. Some included:
-Actors in 19th century dress, including Maxim Baldry and Jacob Collins-Levy, apparently from block 4 (the same as the Judoon). -Director of photography Ed Moore posing for a 19th century style portrait, as a reference. -The leg of a large monster on an unspecified set, courtesy of a sound engineer. Possibly a new one.
Also, various rumblings of a trailer coming within the month, either for NYCC or after.

Apparently, more Cardiff filming is going on, though if it's part of another block or seperate is anyone's guess.
The fam are walking alone. Wonder what could be going on.

So apparently, a special is being filmed. When it's being released, no one knows. cultbox.co.uk/news/doctor-who-series-12-news-on-a-specialDon't think it's a Xmas a New Year's Special for this year: time's too tight. Maybe we're getting our first Easter or Summer special? Or one for Halloween 2020?

To be clear it doesn't state that as fact, it says "if this is a Christmas special, it likely won’t air until Christmas 2020." & nothing in the article confirms that there will be as long a gap between series again.

That is a bit sad, isn't it? I know they want to keep the secrecy and the surprise, but I am not sure this reclusive behaviour is helping.

I think there's a happy medium between spilling it all out and keeping it all secret. Even just teasing out information like they did with the Judoon would do them good and keep hype going. "Here's a behind the scenes photo of a Cyberman. What's going on with them?" "You ever hear of *insert historical character here*? The Doctor has!" "What are Graham and Yaz doing here? You find out soon."

I know Chibnall has never been keen on spilling anything out about the shows he's worked on, but I agree. On the one hand it's nice to keep it spoiler free so as to avoid temptation, on the other hand I have absolutely no hype regarding the next series as we know nothing about it. And I suspect it will not help the ratings if the more casual audience forgets about Doctor Who's existence every other year.

I like the fact Chibbers is trying to keep spoilers to a minimum but surely at big cons like this there should be something teased about the new series?

Given that it is supposed to be back "very early" next year, at this point it's not too soon to be doing something, no matter how small.
To be honest, more than once over the past nine months I've found myself realising that I'd forgotten that it was every coming back. (Then again, I've reached that age where I walk upstairs and by the time I get the top have forgotten what I went up for...)

The media blitz in the month or so preceding the show seems to be a safe bet. I agree it'd be nice for us to see something this far out to keep us going but we're watching regardless. Casual audiences - the ones who make or break the show - will be happy enough with the show being on Graham Norton, the TV mags, Lorraine Kelly, BBC Breakfast and in trails. I don't think the ratings will be anywhere near as high this year anyway, regardless of promotion. Moffat said his biggest mistake was not listening to RTD's creed that audiences needed one new thing each year be it a Doctor or companion. It seems Chibnall is ignoring the advice too as there's zero sign in a status quo shakeup this year - and the curious tuning in just to see what all the female Doctor controversy is about are long since over that, I'd say.

I will add this point: comparatively, Chibbs had more experience running shows with grander tapestries and endgames versus Moffat at the time when they each ascended to the role. It's entirely possible he may be heeding that advice and have something a 'shaker' waiting - this is the guy who, female Doctor aside, took the plunge on Rosa and Punjab, stories with possibly some of the bleakest and most challenging subject matter that the franchise, as a whole, has tackled in recent years. The guy can paly risky hands when he needs to.
That, or the Timeless Child is Gillian Anderson as the Valeyard. Who knows.
