I have been listening to the last series of Dorian and I think it's been extraordinary. Very different from previous series. It seems like this is the first time where the individual stories are connected to each other. It is also the creepiest and scariest group of stories that I can remember. I'm listening to Pandora right now, and up to this point Dorian is never in control of his circumstances, which is unlike other stories. He seems completely at a loss in how to handle this world he has come back to. So far it's been a fascinating season.

I am halfway through series 3 right now. Trying to catch up before 4 comes out! I usually like to relisten to things a few weeks later, but these stories have been so scary it will be a long time before I can relisten.

There's also the lack of narration on these stories. That's a big change. No longer are we getting his voice giving us his interpretation of events, but we are there as events are playing out.

I just started listening to this box got through the first 2 stories. Personally I really miss the narration. It makes the stories feel more personal. And I like that we get his interpretation. Granted he may not always be a reliable narrator but that makes it fun. When people talked about narration in other threads I realized I enjoy first person narration a lot. It's a way to get into the characters head that you can't do with no narration at all. Anyways I hope the narration is back for Series 4.

I do like the narration, but I also like the change of pace due to the lack of narration in this series. It just makes the action that much more immediate and the stakes that much higher.

Well I listened to episode 3 & 4 today. Enjoyed both a lot (more than the first two so maybe I am getting used to the new format.
I especially liked episode 3. Not sure what that says about me since it's pretty nasty to Dorian to say the least. But I enjoyed seeing him struggle so to speak in this one.

I preferred the narration format in series 1 and 2, but series 3 is still very good. Series 4 is the next listen in the car (after Survivors) and I believe they have a mix of narration and no narration in this one.
Cheers

Just listened to Pandora and Heart & Soul Enjoyed them both a lot but especially Heart & Soul was a favorite Tobey squeeee I definitely like the ones where Dorian shows a more vulnerable side. Well the last 2 will come tomorrow.

{Spoiler} Yes, I was completely surprised by Toby's return. I was surprised that they brought back so many people from Dorian's past in the 3rd Series.
I really like how all the stories from the 3rd Series seem to be so intimate and personal.

On the last story tonight. I was also surprised when {Spoiler} Bernard Holley came back. Can they coexist? That voice! He sounds like he could be an older Alex V.

HSHAKLJALLJDALJDJ Okay if anyone had told me when I started this series on a whim because of a sale that I would be so invested in a love story I would not have believed them. And that ending...they are killing me. And from the sounds of it Season 4 doesn't resolve things since it is stand alone stories so I expect the resolution to Toby/Dorian won't come till Series 5. Not sure if a story like Dorian Gray can have a happy ending but please at least give me something bitter sweet and not completely bitter.....
Okay so this set started out a bit slow for me having to get used to the new non-narrated format (although I relistened to the Needle and I enjoyed that one much more the 2nd time) but this was one of my absolute favorite box sets from Big Finish in how emotional it left me. I still have work too dammit.
edit: Listening to the extras and they say without the narration we would feel less sympathetic to Dorian. With the exception of the 1st story I actually ended up feeling more sympathetic. Probably because he seemed more vulnerable in a lot of these stories.
I also always found this Dorian while not good or heroic much more complex than the book version. The themes behind the novel were complex but Dorian was easy to understand in the novel in my opinion. I can't always wrap my head around audio Dorian and that is what I like about him. I definitely never did care about novel Dorian but I do care about audio Dorian. Not sure if am listening the right way. ha ha.
