Releasing a free Episode One might be one of the wisest (and most generous) things Big Finish have done. Listening to it has definitely inclined me to get this when funds allow. Everything is great about it - the atmospheric music and sound design, the compelling performances, the intelligent and well-paced story-line. Wonderfully emotive, stylish, adult, and above all ... gripping! I think you'd need great resolve not to be sucked into this. Since you are so enthused about this- will get the free episode right away and see if I can make up my mind... That's what I thought! Please post your thoughts ...

Okay, that first episode was *really* good - very much in the vein of a BBC drama miniseries. Casting was solid across the board and the action easy to follow (and unnerving!). Kingston makes audio acting seem effortless and I loved the range different of dynamics between Sam and her therapist, her mom (ugh), Paul, and her patients (from kind to flat-out exasperated).
Keith is CREEPY. Fantastic and eerily "off" performance from Warren Brown!
Beautiful tense music, too. Much like the Homecoming podcast became a series on Amazon, I could easily see a story like this (or least this first chapter) being adapted for the small screen. This is a powerhouse first hour of drama. If anything, do yourself a favor and get it for free while you can. I'm hooked and want to hear the rest. Do I pick it up from BF or will this find its way to Audible? Hmm, decisions, decisions...

If you can, pick it up from Big Finish, just so that they get all of the money from the purchase. I always do when I can. Unfortunately, I'm at a place in my life where I also have to try to save whenever possible.
I really do want to hear it and convey the message to them that there is an audience excited about stuff like this and willing to support it financially (whether it's directly or via another authorized distributor).

I have to say, this really isn't my usual "cup of tea", but I think all of the authors did an outstanding job creating a story that's totally compelling and absorbing in spite of that. I'm also amazed at how easily Alex Kingston sold me on her character even though I totally identify that voice with River Song.

Last night, I listened to the free first episode. Impressions: Interesting, original characters with a lot of traumatic background and great potential for drama. Captivating writing, intriguing story. Good atmosphere and interesting setting/ premise. And of course amazing performances.
I had feared Sam would sound too much like River (since Alex Kingston admitted to sometimes slipping back into her River persona while performing). But that was not the case and she is very distinct.
However- it also is not easy listening, there is a lot of trauma and emotion and the feeling of abandonment. I am not sure if this is the right thing for me at the moment, I am afraid. I am a bit out of balance at the moment mood wise (although I have no idea why, but these things happen), and I think I am looking for more of a positive vibe.

I admit, I had to stop a couple of times and listen to other things and then come back to Transference later, and I wasn't even able to finish it in a single day because it got kind of emotional. Some of the themes hit very close to home for me and it got difficult to continue. I'm so glad I decided to persevere, though.

I'll probably listen this weekend on the way down and back to Disney World for Star Wars previews. (that'll be a heck of a make/didn't make day post) Sounds like a complete treat of a release though. Can't wait.

I just finished it and it was fantastic. I got very emotional a few times, and was surprised by so much. I thought I knew what was happening, and then of course I was COMPLETELY wrong. And it was great hearing Alex Kingston do something other than River. She's just amazing. I first fell in love with her during ER and knew that as good as she is as River, she's capable of so much more. This is now my favorite of the BF Originals after ATA Girls, cause honestly nothing can beat that.

Listening to part one of this again, and I can fully understand why it might be a bit 'full on' for some. The subject matter is very heavy and intense, but I love this kind of fiction, gloomy beggar that I am. This might be one of the best things BF have ever done, which is a ridiculous thing to say about the first episode of an audio from a company I've been following for twenty years. But it just might be - the sound design is stylish and moody, the characters are beautifully written and wonderfully played, with an instant chemistry that makes it very easy to believe in them. The full Transference will be with me in 20 days. That's 28800 minutes. And yes, I am counting!

I had forgotten anything about this title when it dropped on my BF download page, I had bought the Originals Bundle.
And so, I put it on my MP3 player and gave it a go.
Personally, I'm not sure if I'd have bought it individually, had I only had episode one to listen to, though. There were several times during the first (and second) episode where I said to myself "really? is this 8 hours of mind-<bleep> ?" because that's not my thing. Then in the middle episodes, I wondered a couple of times if this was some sort of gritty soap opera. Saying that, you might think I'm bashing it, but I'm not, it turned out quite well in the end, by the last half I was really wanting to know what was going to happen next. I was listening to this in like 70 minute chunks on my commute to and from work, and I'm glad I did.
I'd comment further but don't want to get into spoiler territory, so I'll leave it at that.

Three episodes in, and this really is turning out to be the release of the year for me - and that's against some pretty stiff competition. It's very dark, getting more and more intriguing and involved, and the sound design/music captures perfectly the night-time, murky world these characters inhabit. None of them are flawless by any means, but it's just possible the title of the set is beginning to have some relevance. Of course, it could all be a delicious red herring. This demands attention, and it will be a few days before I can commit to more. Next Wednesday looks promising- I really cannot wait! Anyone still on the fence about getting this - and I know the price might put people off, as it almost did me, but - I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

this is the only BF release that I have bought and am not going to listen to in its entirety. i got a bit of the way into ep 2 and then stopped. credit to the writers they’ve set up some wonderful characters but it’s just too bleak for me. the sense of impending trouble is too much for me at the moment. hope everyone else that hears it enjoys it. maybe some time in the distant future i might come back and try to finish it. Yeah, I am with you on that one. I have listened to the free first episode. Definitely well written. Great characters. But I could already see that I would have a hard time dealing with all that raw emotion. I am, as you, currently in a more vulnerable mental state. But who knows, maybe at a later date.

Yeah, I think it’s worth a try - I’d say we all have slightly different tones as writers of this, so if any episodes feel a bit much, the next might be completely different.

Yeah, it's definitely a series that I want to approach like I, Claudius or Edge of Darkness. From the blurb, it'll likely be great and a rewarding experience, but it's not a series that I'll binge. Something for a slowburn over a series of weeks/months.
