As you will know, Jason Ward passed away January of this year. He had been ill for some time, and not only did he share his experiences with the forum in the thread Hello... it's nearly time for me to say goodbye but he also had several discussions with the moderator group. One of those concerned the disposal of his substantial (in excess of 760 titles) Big Finish download collection. After discussion, it became clear that Jason: Wanted his collection to go to somebody on the forum who would appreciate it via a competition or raffle Wanted somebody who doesn't already have most of the titles to have more chance of winning Wanted to make it an opportunity to generate money for charity.Following a lot of internal discussion, and with the blessing of both Jason's family and Big Finish (who will supervise the transfer of the account), the admins and mods are holding a raffle in memory of Jason Ward. The remainder of this post covers: The rules for the raffle How to enter the raffle A summary of Jason's Big Finish account.
Any questions please post below The RulesOnly members of the forum registered before January the 1st 2019 are eligible to enter the raffle as they will have overlapped with Jason Mods and admins are not eligible to enter the raffle Only one person may win The download account is not transferrable at a later date. How to enterBefore 12 noon UK time on Saturday March 23rd visit the charity donation page In Memory of Jason and make a donation of (at least) £10 or the nearest equivalent in your local currency, eg $13 US, $18 Australian or €11.5 and leave a message on the donation page i ncluding your forum name. This is your proof of entryAdd a post to the bottom of the thread Jason Ward memorial raffle confirming you have entered. This gives you one entry into the raffle regardless of how much you donateIf your Big Finish account has fewer than 100 downloads (excluding Big Finish for Free and Podcasts) add screen grabs of your account showing how many items you have (ie total, podcasts and free) If you have 99 or fewer downloads, you will be given a second entry into the raffle If you have 49 or fewer downloads, you will be given a third entry into the raffle Jason's AccountThe total number of downloads is 766. It covers a wide number of Big Finish ranges to various depths, and includes: At least 28 Blake's 7 releases Main range releases Eighth Doctor Adventures Scarifyers releases Third Doctor adventures Tenth Doctor adventures Torchwood UNIT Vienna Graceless Bernice Summerfield Survivors Some Dorian Grey Companion Chronicles Short Trips Sherlock Holmes Sarah Jane Smith Philip Hinchcliffe Fourteen Jago & Litefoot releases Dalek Empire Some Countermeasures

While I will certainly sort out a donation to the Just Giving page during the next few weeks, I won't put my name into the raffle. I'm roughly ninety titles behind where Jason was in his collection, and personally I think it would make a mockery of what he wanted to achieve if my name was pulled from the hat.
But my goodness..If I was just starting out I'd enter this. What a legacy to receive.
Anyway.. kudos to Jason's family and Big Finish for giving their blessing to the raffle, and best of luck to everyone putting their name forward.

This is a great idea. And I am always for supporting mental health causes. I hope a lot of people participate, it would be great if they collect a nice sum.
I do, however, not even necessarily want to win, since I already have quite a collection... I hope it goes to someone with a smaller collection who really values and enjoys it.

What a great gesture......... I will donate but like others, I got everything and would be good to see a newbie or someone who cannot afford to buy lots to win.

No need for me to even want to enter the raffle, as I think I already own every title. But I did want to donate, so I chucked whatever tallied up to 25 dollars worth including administrative fees.

If no one else enters the raffle, tuigirl is going to get a windfall. Thanks to all who have donated so far!

If no one else enters the raffle, tuigirl is going to get a windfall. Thanks to all who have donated so far! I was afraid that was going to happen looking at the "enthusiasm" in the past days. I already have 300 downloads, so I am neither the biggest newbie nor the person who has it all... but would be nice if a few of the newer guys took their chance! Come on, give a little.

Can this thread be pinned somewhere more visible?
Or (and I appreciate the mods might be wary of doing this because of a precedent, but this is exceptional imo) would this be a valid occasion for a message to all members? I would guess that many of the people who know about it have enough DLs that they would rather that someone else won, while newer / less frequent members might be missing out.

It's currently pinned as an announcement viewable from every board in the forum. I don't know how much more visible we could make it.

Short of PMing literally everyone who became a member since before January, what can you do?

I am likely going to donate(and I encourage people to continue donations after the deadline!) But I have a robust collection of BF that is likely over 100 downloads (complete Hinchcliffe, every 8th Doctor mr, box sets, and a few Amazon purchases that I've tossed around rebuying on DL) and also I would find it very difficult if I won. It's a beautiful collection but ot would make me sad every time I opened the app. Also my greatest hope is it goes to someone who A: is a hardcore Blakes 7 fan or B: becomes one before winning. I hope it goes to someone who doesn't just experience joy from BF but sometimes needs BF to experience joy.
I fought for a diagnosis for years and was relieved to find my diagnosis is finally officially listed as PTSD.
PTSD can mimic many other mental health issues and if you know anybody who is struggling with mental health issues and a diagnosis doesn't seem entirely accurate PTSD could be the culprit.
And although PTSD is as lifelong a condition as Bipolar, schizo affective disorder and many more...understanding the traumas that caused it can help treatment and well being greatly.
Also is there a mental health discussion thread on the board? I think with all of us making donations it would be great to discuss further!
Good luck to all the entrants.

I think you might be more worthy than myself! I also feel a bit bad about signing up... but I expected it would be a nice bit of fun and dozens of people on here would join in!!!
Now watching the thorn bushes roll past... It really would be nice if it went to someone who appreciates all this British pop-culture a bit more, like someone who has grown up with it.
Not some daft old German who arrived very late to the party.
I agree with you there.
I never even had heard about Blake 7 before I signed on here and to this day, never have seen or heard any episodes of it...
However, I am sure I would appreciate it and I am very happy I have found Big Finish and this forum. As you say, for me it is also that in dark moments, BF is able to give me back some joy.
I even wrote a (cringe- worthy) fan letter to Vortex last year telling Nick exactly that and he seemed to have appreciated it...
As for mental health- I also have been suffering from chronic depression and panic attacks for a long time now (on and off, sometimes there is nothing for months and then suddenly it hits you like a brick wall), and we have been chatting on here with other members about the issues on and off. It is also a topic close to my heart.
We do not have a dedicated thread for it on here, however.
I am also not sure if it will work out- in my experience, if these things are not well moderated, they can escalate a bit (talking from experiences on social media).
But we could give it a go, certainly.

Mmn, PTSD and anxiety disorder here as well. Stigma is a terrible thing and I can't abide it in regards to mental health. I'm aware it can't ever be "fixed", it's not something that can be "fixed", but there are coping strategies for it. Little things that make it just that little bit easier and enough that it becomes a comparatively small part of life. It doesn't dominate. And it's comforting to have a genuine concern acknowledged as a genuine concern, sometimes that's all people need. It's only part of you, not the whole of you; that's an important distinction, I think.
Given the sensitivity of the subjects themselves, I'd say go for it, but have a look at setting up a private group chat through Messages. Those wishing to join can do so by request and it sidesteps much of the potential ugliness. It may suit your needs a lot better.

I wonder if the deadline should be extended? Or maybe include the previously excluded people after all?
I mean, I am very humbled to be part of such a community of humble souls where everybody feels not worthy... but maybe some people need some more time to consider their potential worthiness?
It is not as if I am the worthiest person, either. Just saying.

I'm one of the excluded, but decided to donate "just because"
TuGirl sounds afraid of winning. Hah!
Okay, if extending the raffle means more people donating, that's a good thing!
