A bit of a roller coaster ride in this thread! It sure is! First they’re happening, then they’re not, then they are again! Gotta love Pierson.

This is probably the last thing in the world I was expecting to come out, but going on Amazon's listings, it seems Scott is reading all of them. That's a lot of books! All seem to be getting a physical release, too. No audible listings so far.

Update: I mentioned above that my copies of the first two, ordered from Book Depository, had been revised to a release date of 18 June. Checking again, the date has again changed to... 17 June!

I will have to keep an eye on these. KLS narrating and $7/CD has to be by far most interested I've ever been in the Ross novels. I still debate whether I will like the stories themselves, but I'm already starting to wonder how I will live without them on audio.

Are the books any good? I would be willing to try one on audible if they make it there, just curious if they are good or cheesy. Marilyn Ross did a lot of gothic fiction back in the day, some of it was a tad formulaic. And yes I know it was a pseudonym for a man.

Ross turned these books out like crazy and without much regard for continuity between them or how they connected with the show. They are definitely very casual reads at best. Danny Horn has reviewed a few of them in Dark Shadows Everyday for episodes he didn't feel inspired for commentary. His write ups are fun and spoilery if yo don't want to know for sure that the creepy dad of the new romantic interest is in fact the villain of the week. Links to a couple I quickly found below. darkshadowseveryday.com/2015/12/05/episode-782/darkshadowseveryday.com/2019/04/14/episode-1165/

Yeah, the characters and so on are quite wildly divergent from the TV show. You do find yourself reading them thinking "who the hell are these people"?
I remember Barnabas, Quentin and the Magic Potion having quite a good Carolyn characterisation, though.
They're interesting. I'd be more interested in reprints than audios though. But I may change my mind.

Amazon sent me a heads-up on these today. Maybe they're feeling fairly confident about these happening then? First they’re happening, then they’re not, then they are again! Gotta love Pierson. Well, I suppose it's a niche market and who knows, maybe KLS came along and saved the whole thing at the last minute or something?

what did the heads up say?

what did the heads up say? Just that "Customers who have shown an interest in "The Mystery of Collinwood (Dark Shadows)" might also like to know about these products." and then it shows about half of the Ross audiobook releases with a link to Amazon to see the rest.

I would hope that they will also be on audible! I know someone said they weren't there yet.

So, I still find this incredible that there has been no official statement from Jim Pierson either confirming or negating these! If they are fake, DCP should be getting Amazon to take them down. Yes, there has been a quasi-denial on CHS, but that’s still indirect. If they’re real, it’s a very piss-poor job of promoting them. They need me doing their PR.

Amazon is now listing these as being read by Kathryn Leigh Scott I've noticed that. No more Romy Nordlinger. So strange.

I would hope that they will also be on audible! I know someone said they weren't there yet. I've found a few situations where Audible doesn't pre-sell an item, but it still ends up being available. This happened a few years ago with one (maybe both?) of the tie-in novels* that came out with the new Twin Peaks series; they were available for pre-sale via Amazon (hard-copy book AND hard-copy audiobook CD) and I think even as a Kindle digital book. But there was no pre-sale for the Audible audiobook, so I got a little worried that the audiobook wasn't coming out digitally. But, on the day the physical book came out, it was available via Audible. Hopefully, that's the same thing here. * Might have been a different book, but I know this happened to me at least once in the past!

Yes, I’ve found that’s pretty much standard Audible policy. iTunes Store doesn’t get the digital audio version either, until the release date of the physical copy.

I think these are really happening....the first two titles have new, professional looking covers, and tomorrow is release day! How is it that nobody has announced this?

But... the audiobooks are now listed as 'currently unavailable' on Book Depository (where I have them pre-ordered) and 'temporarily out of stock' at Amazon, suggesting they've missed their listed release date - so I guess we now have a waiting game
