Day of the Master part 1. This is amazing. I was expecting this to be good, but honestly, this exceeds expectations. This is fresh, fun, exciting and full of twists at every turn. The different incarnations of the Master are great. Especially Missy is as good, if not better, as always. Pairing her with Helen was a great choice. And then there is the calculating menace of the Jacobi Master...
{Spoiler} although I have to say, Liv is not usually this thick, is she? It is a tiny bit hard to believe she takes this long to figure things out. However, Liv is written beautifully otherwise and she is a great foil for the War Master.
With all this awesomeness going on, I admit that the Eleven is a bit of a low point in this... he is just going through the motions. I would have expected a bit more... exhilaration.
And man, that cliffhanger.
I did not see that one coming.

And finished part two of the finale. Well. This was everything I had hoped for and then some. The Master is definitely dominating this completely. And deservedly so. What a great story for my favorite Who villain. And the different incarnations work so beautifully together. However, this means that everybody else gets a bit sidelined in this story. Including the Doctor and his companions. That is both good (more Master!) and well, not so good if you expected more doctorly heroics. To be honest, I think I need another listen or two before I can make my mind up about this. Presently, I think I would have preferred a bit more proactiveness from the TARDIS team, as it is, they are basically just reacting and are thrown about by events. However, I got my wish {Spoiler} and the Eleven dies a gruesome death inflicted by the Master. Yessss! Loved that one.
Oh, and I also loved Liv shooting the War Master in the shoulder. You go Liv. Didn’t I say somewhere above that this is exactly how I believed she would act? Brilliant.
I think with this, I like Liv even more than I did before.
So yeah. This was great. Looking forward to the next series. This really is and hopefully continues to be my favorite BF range.

Blow away by this. I don't, generally, like stories that use multiple Doctors as a gimmick, and so I was sceptical about this one with its multi-Master USP. On top of that it had to wrap up the plot line, and it personified yet another Gallifreyan legend, etc. etc.
It's basically flawless. The tone, pitched perfectly to allow the regulars and special guests space to give top-notch performances without overwhelming each other and yet plot a pacey conclusion to the story arc. The Doctor doesn't meet the 'wrong' masters (so it doesn't have the River Song problem of needing contrivances or undermining the stories it's a sequel to). I like the way the threat builds to something that would concern the Master, and is on a scale that would need them (several of them, in fact) to help resolve. Dorney even manages to do some fan-service filling in some continuity (something else that usually makes me grind my teeth, but made me chortle in delight because it worked so well). And dovetailing with Salzberg is delightful, making the set feel even more cohesive, despite it being deliberately lighter in its arc. Calling it "Day of the Master" invites comparisons with one of the few multi-Doctor stories I actually like, but it's well-earned.
Also, I really liked Eric Roberts' performance. Seriously.

Well, the ending raises a few questions - not only to the future of the TARDIS and the Doctor and his team. But also to the Masters. {Spoiler} So are Missy, the War Master, Bruce and Hello you! traveling together for a longer time? Might they get involved in the Time War? Or will they be back to pester the Doctor? This could also make a Sitcom....

out for a wander in the rain taking in a breakfast and espresso in A cafe in Glasgow’s West End district.
been Relistening to Day of The Master and it gets more fun as I listen.Missy just will kill you with a smile-she was a masterstroke.
I don’t have an issue with Eric’s delivery he is as cold hearted as the movie and am sure we will get more of him and Paul with each other so he can put in his camp theatricality into action.
This is a super box set for me where lines and delivery become memorable. looking forward to the 11s original tale with 7.
would really like a Time scaphe Alpha 9 Box Set were we really get to know the characters and their mission and then their gruesome demise...
there’s plenty of scope for a return of the Ravenous ....in due time.

And the Ravenous re-engineered as a weapon in the Time War- stranger things have happened. Will give us a break from the grating Dalek voices.

Yes but they would be allies to the Daleks of course. I think the stand alone tale would be lovely even the Doctor/Liv/Helen arriving on the ship knowing the crew do not make it out alive (but that sort of story has been done many times)but my preference is for a tale that just takes us on their mission. I have also just ordered Here They Be Monsters-as its about someone punching holes in the fabric of the universe and releasing things. It is a largely unexplored Time-and the story could debunk the myths and legends surrounding the crews gruesome fates. the Tardis crew could stumble across the Time scaphes’ Black Box and it tells them the tale 🤪

Well, I have to say that was my favourite Ravenous set! But saying that, I do have some mixed feelings about the set itself, but I mostly enjoyed it. Whisper didn't quite set out to be what it intended to be, but it was a decent enough story and was a nice character piece for Liv and The Eleven. Planet of Dust was enjoyable. But, of course, Day of the Master was the main draw for the set. DotM was enjoyable, but to me, I didn't connect with the story completely, but that's mainly down to myself not being overly interested in the Ravenous arc itself - the Master side of things was great, I loved the multi-Master interactions, but it didn't completely hit the mark for me due to the overall arc which is a bit of a shame, but it was still a helluva good story despite that. {Spoiler} I really loved the wrap up of The Eleven's arc and now leading into the Twelve. I've enjoyed The Eleven, but I'm ready for a bit of a break from this incarnation of them (after Dark Universe, anyway). Thought the regeneration scene was great, it's just a shame that it was missing a bit of Julia McKenzie!
Also, the other slight disappointment is the fact that we didn't really get much of a shake-up to Team TARDIS, other than the Eleven leaving which was inevitable, really. I realise I sound a little negative, but I really did enjoy this set. I'm just hoping that with a relisten, the Ravenous arc might improve, perhaps I'll enjoy it more as a whole, rather than having breaks between each set. Anyways, bring on Stranded!

Awesome box set, 4 excellent stories which sees the end of the road for a certain character & new beginning of another.
Sir Derek Jacobi as The War Master is quickly becoming one of my favourite Masters deliciously evil & yet charming, Gomez who i loathed on Tv is bats..t crazy but I've actually started to warm to Missy thanks to Big Finishes excellent writer's giving her incarnation better material & while Robert's Master is a bit monotone i felt this worked well against Jacobi's charming evilness & Gomez's bonkersness.
Oh & that ending gave me chills, the Timelords it seems are like UK Politicians changing the rules to suit themselves.
Easily a 5/5.

I loved Roberts BTW, he just sounds like someone who is tightly in control of himself, but when the Doctor turns up he instantly switches into “I always dress for the occasion” mode.

I think he is darker than Jacobi more reserved and as you say more in control ,very suspicious and shadowy.Theres depth to his ice coldness. Will look forward to a meeting with him and McGann without the other Masters, though something tells me Roberts and Missy are a double act waiting for an audio show down🤪

I forgot he was even on the TARDIS after the last set, so that shows you how much that addition added for me. And there was the perfect set up to write out Liv set up in Day of the Master so I wonder why they didn't use the opportunity to give such a really stagnant range (imo) a bit of a shakeup, especially since Liv is getting her own series anyways and it'd give Helen a bit of a push to get in the limelight and open up space for a new companion. I feel like Eight and Helen as a team would be brilliant on their own but if you added a fun, optimistic stowaway to balance out their understandable depression over losing Liv it could end up being one of my favorite teams ever.

High praise to both of them for being able to create both the Ravenous and the Colstani and make them sound both distinct enough for you to miss the big revelation and yet similar enough for you to go “of course!” when the penny drops for the Doctor.

I've just relistened to Planet of Dust & Day of the Master and honestly loved every second of them both (again)! What a finale, roll on Stranded!
