An excellent ending. It really does feel like the end of an era for the Eighth Doctor. Surprisingly some elements are remaining the same, but with so much resolution; with characters reaching satisfying conclusions, this box set felt like a fitting finale not just to Ravenous, but to so much that has gone before. Now just a few things I feel I have to mention.... That Dorney cliffhanger was as good as hoped. And I did give it five hours before I listened to the final episode to give my mind the time it need. Jacobi brings a whole new level of evil to the Master. I felt physically ill listening to him tell Liv what her eternal fate would be. I shouted out in relief when the Doctor turned up! I hope we get to hear more from the Wish Lord. If Jago & Litefoot was still going I would suggest that he should be part of a future set for them. Perhaps he would work well in a Paternoster special? This was all so entertaining...we are so lucky to have Big Finish and all the talented individuals that work for them. Well said. I think the Wish Lord as you said could work wonders in a Paternoster Gang set. Perhaps in a festive special ala ‘It’s a Wonderful Life?’ where we see a world where they never met.

Right slight query from me but i know someone will have the answer. Artron had a tomb and a brain print and a Tomb on a foreign planet not on Gallifrey...was the tomb a fake?

A Jago & Litefoot Victorian Christmas special was a HUGE omission from the range by Big Finish, surely they won’t make that same mistake again with the Paternoster Gang!?

After a busy week, I finally finished this set. Really enjoyed it. 5/5 While I wasn't very fond of the Ravenous plot-line as a whole, this box certainly brings it all to a satisfying conclusion. And with a multi-Master sub-plot to boot?! The three play off each-other so well; Each a different flavor of evil Other stray notes:
They did a great job giving every character something to do in the last two stories, as each main cast member splinters into their own sub-plot. I appreciate having a founding Timelord that had a good heart, and managed to retain it despite everything. Great addition to the lore.
Finally giving us a definitive end to Beevers incarnation was cool, especially how he uses his last moment to aid the Doctor, even if only out of revenge. And while unnecessary IMO, the fact that they went the extra mile to reconcile the Master's confusing timeline was a commendable and well-executed effort.

I just received this text from my brother: "Damn, Planet of Dust ends on quite the cliff hanger! I think the Eleven has to be one of the best characters in anything, ever. He's just so good! I'll be finishing Ravenous 4 tomorrow but I really look forward to more stuff with him in it. Didn't you say there was going to be a story (or box set or something) of the Seventh Doctor capturing him? I really look forward to it, I just want more of this character!" Well... {Spoiler} It's kind of heartbreaking reading that. I told him that the Day of the Master cliffhanger was probably going to be better, but seeing him so excited about the Eleven and knowing what's coming up is just kind of sad. At least he's in Dark Universe in January, but the future of the character beyond that doesn't look like it's going to be very extensive. I'm anticipating a devastated text tomorrow when he finishes the set

Just realised I never posted my thoughts on this set. I enjoyed all three stories well enough. I didn't feel Whisper was really that much of a filler episode. Yeah, it wasn't part of the arc, but we've had several stories in Ravenous unrelated to the arc so it seemed pretty well at home in this set. Planet of Dust was really enjoyable - you can never have too much Geoffrey Beevers! As for Day of the Master, it was quite enjoyable but it wasn't quite as mind-blowing as I was hoping it was going to be. It was let down by two things for me: 1) It kind of did an Eye of Darkness thing by explaining the origins of the Ravenous, but because the Eighth Doctor sets have already done something so similar (not that long ago in the grand scheme of things), it unfortunately became a little predictable in its eventual outcome; and 2) the Day of the Master cliffhanger was absolutely amazing... until I had time to think about it. In the moment it was awesome, but I'd already figured out what was happening before the music suites at the end of the disc had finished playing, and once I knew that it kind lost its "That was so amazing" feel. I was going to wait as Mr Dorney had suggested but because my theory felt so sound (and proved to be correct) I didn't feel like I needed to wait. I'll reinforce here that I did really enjoy the set though. Unlike some, I thought Eric Roberts was fantastic in this. His incarnation is very different to the others, so I interpret his somewhat "wooden" performance as simply his way of expressing himself. He also sounded like he was having a lot more fun with this script that he was with the River Song one, and I think that had a marked improvement on his performance. Oh, there is one other small niggle: {Spoiler} Advertising for the set promised one of the TARDIS crew would die. Now, I know that the Eleven was being classified as part of the crew for this set, but I was left feeling somewhat cheated. I was promised a death and I was expecting a "meaningful" one (for lack of a better word). He's character will continue on as the Twelve and we're going to be getting stories set earlier in his life, so it's not as if that's the end of the character. I think it's made worse after the UNIT: Incursions promised death that never happened, so maybe that's what's really making this frustrating for me. Given another range has promised the same thing in its next release, I'm going to be genuinely surprised if one of the "real" leads actually gets killed... All in all, I'm very happy with the way Ravenous as a whole has gone down. Each set was consistently enjoyable, which is a difficult feat to pull off over an 18-month release schedule. Here's to Stranded and whatever it will bring!

I guess marketing a thing is a tricky business and unlike some i did not want any of the crew to die at all.Why do they need to die to have a meaningful departure? Liv did get killed and luckily enough regenerated and personally you could have ended the cliffhanger at those shots without the regeneration sequence and it would have worked equally well. Somehow i had guessed for me it was the potential death of the TARDIS that would have had the most meaning for the Doctor, not saying he is cold hearted or anything lol. Yesterday i relistened to the Whole Doom 4 and thought, nope am not bored of Helen or Liv and do not need a death when it comes for them to Exit the show. and i agree “Here’s to Stranded” clink clink

Here's to Stranded and whatever it will bring! {Spoiler} Well, Liv DID die. Several time overs. I'm going to stick to the theory that {Spoiler} Liv probably was going to die
but there was some behind the scenes stuff that changed the plans. And what a shame too. This range really needs a good shakeup and I'm just tired of The Liv and Helen Show featuring the Eighth Doctor after four years of it and a series that ultimately feels like it was really resting on its laurels because they didn't want to rock the boat. Was this set in particular great? Absolutely. But this range just really needs some new blood inserted into its production on both sides of the microphone because as a whole, Doom Coalition and Ravenous as a whole unfortunately haven't had the je ne sais quoi I need from them. It's really no shade on Fitton and Dorney. Things like Absent Friends, Songs of Love, the Kandyman two-parter, the Krampus two-parter, Companion Piece, and Day of the Master are brilliant but when it feels like there really aren't any consequences with these stories and any development in relationships or characters is at a standstill, what's the point? Why are these characters being dragged past what feels should have been like their natural endpoints? What is keeping the people in charge of these sets from changing things up? And I know I keep asking these questions but I just feel like there's never really a good answer given. The worst thing is, I genuinely want to like these and I keep coming back hoping it's going to be different. Dorney and Fitton are amazing writers. Paul McGann, Nicola Walker, and Hattie Morahan are great. But I just can't understand why this recipe isn't working. It's like someone isn't putting enough seasoning on the chicken. There's something that could make these amazing but the chefs can't get this recipe right and every time I come in, I'm praying they figured it out but they still haven't and it's really getting to my breaking point of giving up if Stranded ends up more of the same.

Here, I think your cooking analogy works well- not every dish is to everybody's taste. I am also sometimes quite lost for words to explain why something is not to my taste. For example, I never was very taken by the 8th Doctor adventures with Lucie Miller... somehow, the seasoning always was off for me and I could not even point my finger to one particular thing to explain why I feel that way. There were some brilliantly written stories. The actors are great. I love McGann. No idea why I does not really work for me.
However, I am like you and I am waiting for a real shakeup in the next series. I am all for original new stories.
Surprise me.

Like I said, the range has felt like it's resting on laurels this entire series with nothing shaking the status quo and was ultimately forgettable for me. It kind of felt like no one knows what they actually want to do so they just throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks and nothing really did. The Eleven was kind of pointless in the series, Liv and Helen haven't had any real development since Doom Coalition 3, the Doctor keeps getting pushed to the background with not a ton to do, and there just isn't anything really sparking until Missy, Jacobi, and Roberts pop in to say hello and screw with the Doctor and his companions for a couple hours while the Ravenous plot happens around them and ends with a deus ex machina that was set up a couple boxsets ago. None of it really felt like it mattered. Like you could have cut the series in half and it wouldn't have changed anything.

I will probably eat my words a few years down the line and Goodness knows how many relistens by then. I will steer clear of the why something isn’t working debate as am very much on the side of this is working for me side. I am even going to put in a favourite out of all the sets and name it
Ravenous 3-Deeptime Frontier-Matt Fitton
It is just what i need at times from a Doctor Who adventure-a powerful enemy and lots of audio visual scare moments-the companions are active in the story and pretty much thrill a minute stuff. It is just pure action adventure nothing very clever or timey wimey no squeee .Like SEIZURE it gripped my imagination just for the pure action linear hell of it because sometimes thats all i want a story that goes from A to B.The fantastic historical scare story contained within it...That is what is great about Doctor who as a series, you can do clever, you can do historical, you can do timey wimey and you can just go on an action packed ride of a story.Deeptime Frontier did what Doctor Who can do best put the crew in Peril, yes i know the Doctor will survive,i know the companions will survive but its a thrill of a story in the same way i find John Dorneys Iterations of I a complete thrill of a ride. so Mr Fitton love it to bits and its way up there in my relistening pleasures-The Magic Mousetrap/House Of Blue Fire/Iterations/Deeptime.Thank you.

None of it really felt like it mattered. Like you could have cut the series in half and it wouldn't have changed anything. Hmm. Well, for me, I actually thought there was quite a bit of character development and exploration for Liv and Helen in the past few stories. Also, I really enjoyed the exploration of the Eleven and his mind, for me, he is one of my favorite villains. I thought he was fantastic here and his interactions with Liv were wonderful. {Spoiler} I smiled with glee several times when he was confronted by Liv, when he made his treachery known and of course when the Masters brutally murdered him.
I just loved it. For me this set was pretty much the BF highlight of the year. However, I do agree with you that the Doctor does indeed get pushed into the background a lot. You are right, this is noticeable. I think this was always a risk when having such a large all star cast involved. Not much space left for the Doctor to shine! This is why I am really looking forward to some more intimate stories away from the blockbuster event audios that these stories have been. Just look at "Ship in a Bottle"- that was fantastic and worked wonderfully and only had the main cast in it. I hope we get more stories like that! I do not always need 4 Masters and 3 different sets of villains in my stories. And I also agree that the Deus ex Machina was a bit... disappointing. That was an easy way out.
{Spoiler} And to be honest, I had completely expected for Liv to die. Somehow, the stories and the writings just seemed to foreshadow the death. Maybe you are right and they changed in last minute. But, and here is a wild theory, maybe she will die at the beginning of the next series? When everybody last expects it? Wouldn't that be an awesome (but very sad!) surprise?

I dont think it needs to be a death. I think there is enough of Liv feeling that no one listens to her especially the Doctor when she warns him.Would you hang around? Let her leave.Lucie Miller did it when she was hurt by the Doctor.Let Liv leave in an arguement or a difference of opinion it really can have just as much impact as a death scene.Helen well you can do anything to Helen we know she NEVER returned home and was basically lost to time... Either way it will be memorable . Knowing Liv and her connection to the Daleks a simple non interference speech from the doctor would be enough for her to bugger off and leave him willing to fight her own war.

Yeah, there is potential for some great conflict. Good drama grows from conflict. I hope we get some more of these character driven stories and I hope they won't shy away from some of the more uncomfortable developments.
