Yes, many congratulations BF on a clean sweep of the AUDIO DRAMA nominations - how often does that happen and one company takes all the nominations I wonder? Impressive.
It's an interesting list of nominee titles from across the ranges. I've only heard the last two and of course 'The War Master 2' did have the feel of an epic novel ("I have an award for you..." ) but for a really imaginative classical science-fiction story I think it would be very hard to top 'The Invention of Death'.

I do not think I can stomach the War Master, sadly... but I see that the 1st Doctor set has gotten very good reviews and I really enjoy John Dorney's writing. Not sure if it will be my cup of tea (not really acquainted with the 1st Doctor), though. But still looking for some juicy listening material for Easter... Hmm. What to do? Invention is inventive and Barbicans is a classic example of the Historical story they did in the Hartnell Tv years so you've got both, 1 juicy experience story and 1 that gives you a flavour of the Era Regards mark687

So this might be good as an intro to the very early days? But as long as they are good stories, I might be happy.
Okay, I still have 2 days to decide....

Okay, I still have 2 days to decide.... Yes I'd even be tempted to say you could only do a story like invention because its set in the early days.

And Mr. Dorney's writing is very clever indeed, my mind was blown by Ravenous 3/ Companion Piece. Really tempted.

And Mr. Dorney's writing is very clever indeed, my mind was blown by Ravenous 3/ Companion Piece. Really tempted. Agree with Mark, the set gives an excellent flavour of the era. 'The Invention of Death' is the sort of high-concept science-fiction that the best 1950s/60s sci-fi writers created; it's very original and perfectly of its era as a 'Doctor Who' story. And 'The Barbarians and the Samurai' is a classic-style historical that feels very authentic to the best historicals from the Hartnell years, a genre I love.
Easily my favourite of the new First Doctor volumes so far. Highly recommended!

Thanks for the recommendation, guys! I caved in and got this. Listening for the Easter holiday sorted. And there is a good chance I might actually enjoy this.
