Well had the second listen.
Firstly the performances are good.I think Katy steals the show and to be honest i would have much preferred it without Jack. this is nothing against John its about Jack.I think this would have been far better with Gwen or Ianto .Jack cannot die .Theres no tension having him in a tunnel with any foe never mind giant maggots.(and she was so wrong not to shoot Jack ððððð)
Has it given me a sudden change of heart to listen to More Torchwood ,sadly not...but am Glad i got to hear Katy giving a very very strong emotional performance. But David LLewyln has delivered a good script.
But at least for moment i tried.

And yes, having Jack in there as an immortal takes out all the peril. However, I think this was planned as a comedy from the beginning and this is why they got Jack along+ he has been a companion, so they could get a few lines in about new and old companions. Also, Jack is the most famous of the lot... If this was conceived as a longer, drama or horror piece, you are spot on. But as a short comedic caper, it could only be Jo and Jack. Well, at least you tried. This one has become one of my pick me up audios for when I am down because it makes me smile. But we are all different.

I can think of Jo in the Tunnel with her husband would have been funnier. Got to say though as i have said elsewhere they need to get OLDER Jo back with a Doctor not her own, even as her performance In Legacy proved. She really is a greater actor with strong emotional performances. Lets be honest if she was with McGanns Doctor, continuity be damned she wouldnt let him sit on the fringes if she knew he had the ability to end a war and the suffering of those casualties in the War ,we would have truly felt through her eyes. More OLder JO Grant please.

I seem to be the odd man out here in that I really did not enjoy this one. Both Katy and John were brilliant as always, and the sound design was particularly excellent (sloshing/swimming through sewage were especially nice touches), but the story just really never grabbed me. The core premise of how they met up and got stuck together didn't really work for me, giant maggots are not a thrilling villain, and I found Jack to be weirdly overly hostile to the point that it struck me as out of character Perhaps I should qualify this with the caveat that I did not enjoy The Green Death, either. The one exception to all that is the moment when Jo breaks down, when she realizes that the lifetime of good work that she did has been perverted into something evil. Katy was so brilliant there, so crushingly sad, that it hurt even to listen to this fictional character react. That bit was brilliantly written, brilliantly acted, and brilliantly directed. I'm mostly in the same boat as you on this one. Didn't love this release, wasn't a big fan of The Green Death either. I guess I'm mostly not a big fan of stories involving maggots as villains. I don't like the Wirrn, either. I did enjoy the interactions between Katy and John. But I didn't really buy into how upset Jo was at the end, the whole thing seemed overwrought to me. Glad I listened, probably won't listen again.
