What is the correct balance of discrimination versus non-discrimination that you think the series should employ? If there's an episode that suggests that it's wrong to be a nazi, should there be one that's pro-White Supremacy to balance it out?
Right. I'm hoping (and assuming) you're taking a sarcastic swipe here...
I thought I was being sarcastic enough but I guess not!
At the same time I am genuinely interested in hearing what people who complain about things being "too PC" would consider the acceptable level of bigotry and intolerance to be, since they seem to think there is one.

Good to hear! I've just learned over the years that text doesn't always convey tone, so while I'd assumed sarcasm I wasn't sure. There's no acceptable level of bigotry. There you go. Too PC? Hmm, I think that's misapplied to things that aren't even PC at all.

if the first article was him shooting himself in the foot, this one is the equivalent of blowing off the other leg for good measure. He also tweeted that RTD's new show Years And Years is "lefty nonsense" this week but then deleted the tweet the next day. So he does have some level of self censorship! His article is quite illuminating - completely misrepresenting what he said and the impact of it. It's amazing how often people in his position will try and turn it into themselves who have been victimised. "Lefty nonsense"? My God! I can't believe he would stoop that low to whine about my favourite New Series showrunner's latest TV project. Years and Years truly, so far, couldn't fascinate me enough, and I actually quite enjoy how it tries to appeal to viewers on all sides of the political spectrum, despite the post-watershed content. To be very honest, Gareth seriously needs to think twice before jumping to such a one-sided conclusion.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It seemed quite a well reasoned article to me. Judging by the feedback it would appear to have struck a chord with many concerned about the way the series has been appropriated by a niche but very vocal element of the so called 'fan community'. I think that Gareth suggests that he would not have been so vocal himself if so called 'woke' interest groups have not been so hyper sensitive to 'hate thought' in recent years. He talks about the show in terms of the “good old days” ie when he was a fan and later when he worked on it. Then he slags off the current fans by describing them as uptight prefects. He uses “woke” and “middle-class” as insults. That’s petty and childish, not well-reasoned. And, if he’s saying that people shouldn’t be so sensitive to him bring “vocal”, then he’s basically saying “look what you made me do.”

Living in the US, I see enough of the harm that the "let's go back to the good old days" sentiment has created in our politics, because "the good old days" in that context became shorthand code for "when the system kept others down and I enjoyed feeling superior". Here is he complaining about fandom claiming "ownership" over the show when...this is exactly what he's doing.
He talks about the show in terms of the “good old days” ie when he was a fan and later when he worked on it. Then he slags off the current fans by describing them as uptight prefects. He uses “woke” and “middle-class” as insults. That’s petty and childish, not well-reasoned. And, if he’s saying that people shouldn’t be so sensitive to him bring “vocal”, then he’s basically saying “look what you made me do.” That's what I found to be completely ridiculous. I'm 44 years old and have been a fan since the late 80s (Sylvester McCoy had just become the Doctor for the UK, but "my" Doctor at the time was Peter Davison on my local PBS station). I also grew up as a person of color in the midwestern US during that time, which was anything but easy. I was an outcast in a lot of ways, but I did learn to appreciate empathy (and extend it in return!) when I connected with other people that were outcasts in their own way. And funnily enough, it was during those difficult teen years that I'd discovered and connected with Doctor Who. I wonder why...? Who the heck is this arrogant clown to dismiss me and my experience by trying to force into his crybaby box of "wahhh anybody with empathy is a 'self-denier, quivering zealot, senior prefect, and hall monitor'"?
I'll answer my own question: He's a complete jackass. It's easier for his limited thinking to imagine me as (his words) a vigorous policing member of the Doctor Who Fan Community. I'm not. I'm (again, his words) still the happy hobbyist I've always been. I'm also an adult and a parent with extremely low patience for bullies. All of us get one trip on this planet, so it will never make sense to me why other people take such joy in diminishing the experience of others.
Look at this temper-tantrum pouting nonsense:
Yeah, it's called "not being a d***head."
