That’s been out for years, just been reduced as they’ve been stubbornly not selling. Shame really I think it’s a nice set and it not selling just means Character won’t do anything online that isn’t a Doctor & TARDIS set.

Now I've bought this for £7.99 from local B&M What do I want with a Yas? In fairness the model is quite nice.

That’s been out for years, just been reduced as they’ve been stubbornly not selling. Shame really I think it’s a nice set and it not selling just means Character won’t do anything online that isn’t a Doctor & TARDIS set. Admittedly I've only took the punt at £14.99. I personally am not into army building or the Silurians specifically enough to have wanted a 3-pack for them at £29.99. And yet I can't argue that the figures don't look great, it's very well representative of what we get in the story and £29.99 is a terrific price for the amount of new sculpting given the current toy market. Ironically, stick a Tegan or Turlough and add a tenner and I'd have bought it. I don't think this will mean future Character exclusives will only be Doctors and TARDIS sets, but it'll make them less outlandish than we may have gotten with the Forbidden Planet exclusives 10 years back. They've been varied enough so far, with a much wanted Second Doctor variant, Fourteen and Fugitive Doctors, niche Daleks and a crazy Thirteen variant that we'd otherwise never have gotten. Seems pretty representative of the range we've known and loved for nearly 20 years.

And now I've bought this for a fiver I don't know why I'm doing this. The only ones I ever wanted were classic cybermen. At least I have a Tom for these to knock around with.

First leak of the year: Bomber Dalek & Movellans probably coming soon to a struggling website near you.
I do own the original Bomber Dalek but bless it it’s gunstick and plunger are reliant on glue to stay attached (it was my only classic Dalek as a kid so saw a lot of use), so may pick this up.

Website should be OK this time round - the enhancement work was done the evening of the announcement day, as the announcement was originally scheduled the day after, but the PR team got a little trigger happy!
Great set, I think putting two characters in there is a good idea. Allows for army building, and therefore additional sales, whilst also offering some variety and something “complete”. The Warriors of the Deep set, whilst nice, lacked that, I think.
Hope it does well for them, as I’d like to see these Character exclusives become more regular. They offer us something more offbeat than we’d get mass retail or more new tooling than we’d get from B&M.

Ouch. I dont buy a lot of these but that seems very high. I got the Jodie wearing all the different aspects of past Doctor costumes and 14th Doctor regen set for about that. Two unique Doctor figures versus this? Not a contest. I wanted the Jo Martin one but that was too expensive too. If the brand management want a younger audience again they'd do well to look at the Tennant era merch which was cheap so kids could get it. These are aimed at fans with disposable incomes to keep in box or display. God forbid just open and play with them! Needs a rethink. In 2007 or so a Meep plush toy would have been out the week after broadcast and under every tree.

The price is very competitive compared to its rivals. A recent four figure Star Wars set is listed at £105, with inferior quality on the head to what Character are putting out. A Marvel set with two figures is up for £55. Indeed, to go back to Star Wars, their 3.75” range is pushing £15-£18 a figure now, and more often than not heavily reused / straight up variants.
Action figures aren’t really for kids any more as they move on to more interactive / technology orientated items. Out of its competitors Who has the best opportunity purely because they manage to keep the price substantially lower than that of its competitors. Fingers crossed that later this year / next year when the new production has really proven itself we’ll see a return to more mass market products. The days of massive displays at Toys R Us are over, whether that be Who, Star Wars, Marvel, Transformers, etc.

There are premium ones but that is the case with all fandoms. Star Wars has had merch appealing to older audiences for decades. Doctor Who was still selling Easter Eggs, toothbrushes, cheaper toys and Top Trumps a decade ago. Not that long.
