A Wilf spin off series boxset.. Rumblings on facebook about a couple people who have seen twitter posts almost confirming this but quickly deleted so.. "Marketing Hype 101".. I didn't see this personally, there's a thread on 1 of the many BF facebook forums. That would be interesting though Wilf.. HHMM Sure, why not. Still makes more sense than a New Earth spin-off.

To be fair to the New Earth spin-off though, it actually wasn't that bad. I think the problem was that no-one really gave it a chance.

It was a lot more fun than I expected, absolutely but at the same time You've got to excite people. Painfully average TV stories like New Earth and Gridlock aren't the most inspiring launchpads. It's a bit of a two-way street. Then BF gave the whole set away free to people who bought the special edition of DWM only a year or so after release which was quite an odd move.

Have they really given the entire box set away for free? Maybe I should hold off on the next "questionable" title, could save myself a packet I think Gridlock is a decent episode and is pretty underappreciated. On the surface it's a story about the gridlock (the part I noticed as a kid) but it's got a much darker side with a pretty heavy theme - drug abuse. It's not the sort of story Doctor Who tells very often (only Nightmare of Eden springs to mind as another example), and I think it's handled pretty well. Sure, it takes drugs use to its furthest possible limits by creating a doomsday weapon, but its message is still relevant today.

Oh, particularly in the way that the drug became a threat, through mutation into an airborne virus. Another pretty heavy theme is the invisible disintegration of institutions. What struck me as the most disturbing aspect of the episode, particularly years later, is that everyone in that undercity is relying on a support system that doesn't exist. The automation churns away, bright as the day it was first released, but there's no one to man it. No one to respond. That's a pretty adult fear to lean on, all things considered. The idea of someone perishing in the (unreasonably long) hold queue for a vital service.

Interesting points both. My initial reaction to that announcement was "What? Why??" Given how many Doctor Who spinoffs were already available it really didn't make sense to choose New Earth of all things for yet another one. I think how quickly the set found itself on sale or giveaway (I hadn't heard that before) is telling. Still, I haven't heard it, and I'll give it as much of a fair chance as anything else I listen to.

By the way, I'm not one that hates thread drift here and there, but isn't this the "What are you waiting for?" thread and not the "What are your story ideas?" thread?

Considering we now have the excellent Jon Culshaw playing the Brigadier, I expect we will soon see him crossover into the new UNIT series to have an adventure with Kate Stewart.
This is also verging into ‘story ideas’ territory but I did think it could be interesting to see a Torchwood release featuring her and Jack where perhaps she was offered a job there but ultimately declined.

Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler visiting the Land of Fiction and meeting fictional Jamie McCrimmon again. In a New fun trilogy arc

Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler visiting the Land of Fiction and meeting fictional Jamie McCrimmon again. In a New fun trilogy arc Any arc in any New Series Doctor release would be nice. The RTD years were so good at weaving in an arc - one that didn't overpower the standalone tales, but paid off nicely in the season finale. So I'm surprised we haven't seen that at all in the Tenth Doctor Adventures - a nod to something in the first two episodes of a box set and a resolution in the third (in a way that works even if you've only bought the third one, of course). But if the Land of Fiction came up, I think I'd rather them do something a little different than what's been done before. The Land and other fiction-is-reality stories have been done again and again (the TV series, novels, audios and comics have all had at least two shots) but I still think there's some scope for something new.

There's room for debate, but I think he might actually meet two there. Depending on your interpretation of the Sixth Doctor's appearance.

Well it was mentioned by the Tenth Doctor to Rose at the ending of "Infamy of Zaross" if she would like to visit the Land of Fiction. And it was like a fun idea David Tennent, Billie Piper and Fraser Hines working all together and a fun fact that Billie and Fraser share the same birthday.

I moved all the big story idea posts to the "Fantasy Releases!" thread in the General Big Finish section. Enjoy the crazy ideas!

I thought that was the implied connection, yeah. It would be cool to see them follow up that line! And cool to see Jamie alongside the Tenth Doctor after he used his name in Tooth and Claw... I think I'd just rather see those things each be their own thing. The Tenth Doctor, Rose and the Land of Fiction for one box set, then pair 'em with a REAL Old Jamie as a third companion in the next!
